Derrick Henry Moves Past Walter Payton on All-Time Rushing TD List, Who Will He Pass Next?

Derrick Henry keeps climbing up the NFL record books. The Baltimore Ravens running back passed Walter Payton for fifth place on the league’s all-time rushing touchdown list during Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. Henry powered in a two-yard touchdown run in the first half to give the Ravens an early lead and move ahead of the legendary Chicago back.

Derrick Henry Is Now Chasing Adrian Peterson

With 111 career rushing touchdowns, Henry is now just nine behind former Minnesota Vikings great Adrian Peterson, who sits in fourth place with 120. Beyond Peterson, Marcus Allen ranks third with 123, LaDainian Tomlinson holds second with 145, and Emmitt Smith remains far ahead in first with 164.

Henry’s climb has been steady and hard-earned. He’s already passed Jim Brown and now Walter Payton, cementing his spot among the game’s great running backs. Even with Emmitt Smith’s record still a long way off, the 31-year-old keeps proving he belongs in the conversation with the NFL’s all-time best.

As the Ravens battle through Week 8, Henry’s latest milestone is another reminder of his durability and consistency over a decade of dominance.

‘King HenryNears Another Wild Record

Henry’s pursuit of NFL legends isn’t the only milestone drawing attention this season. The Ravens running back is also closing in on surpassing his own legendary high school rushing total — a feat few ever imagined possible.

During his four seasons at Yulee High School in Florida, Henry set a national record with 12,124 rushing yards, a mark that still stands.

Through seven weeks of the 2025 NFL season, Henry has totaled 11,862 career rushing yards at the professional level. If he maintains his current pace, he could eclipse that total before the end of the season.

For context, Henry’s 12,124 high school rushing yards broke a record set by Ken Hall in the 1950s. His dominance continued at every level, from winning the Heisman Trophy at Alabama to earning multiple Pro Bowl selections in the NFL.

Derrick Henry’s Other 2025 Possible Rushing Milestones

When Henry was growing up, the running back he admired most wasn’t the one people might expect for a 6-foot-3, 250-pound bruiser. His idol was LaDainian Tomlinson, the 5-foot-10, 220-pound San Diego Chargers legend known for his agility and signature dark visor.

He’s the one who really inspired me,Henry said during training camp, via ESPN.As I got older, I was like,Man, I’m not LT’s size,so I have to be a different type of back.”

Now, Henry is closing in on joining Tomlinson in yet another elite club. The Ravens running back needs 1,317 more rushing yards to crack the NFL’s top 10 all-time rushing list. If he reaches that mark, Henry would jump from his current spot at No. 19 past seven Hall of Fame backs: Thurman Thomas, Franco Harris, Marcus Allen, Edgerrin James, Marshall Faulk, Jim Brown, and Tony Dorsett.

Through seven full games this season, Henry ranks second in the league in rushing with 592 yards and has already scored six touchdowns. His mix of power, vision, and resilience continues to make him one of the NFL’s most dominant players.
