The Detroit Lions don’t like losing, and they’re making some changes to try to make sure it doesn’t happen again. The team traveled to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, October 12, for a high-profile evening game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and Detroit was even favored a bit. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, and the Detroit Lions walked out of there with a 30-17 loss.
But, that’s all in the past now. There’s no use dwelling on it too much, unless, of course, there’s something left to learn from the loss. And, maybe there is more to learn. So, why not ask someone from the Kansas City Chiefs’ team about how they do things over there?
On Thursday, October 16, the Detroit Lions announced a handful of roster moves that will position them for the future. One of those has to do with the Kansas City Chiefs. Sure, the Lions aren’t scheduled to play them again this season, but there’s always the possibility that the Lions will see them together in the final game.
Detroit Lions Make Changes to Lineup
The Detroit Lions are officially making not one, not two but three new roster moves. The team is signing safety Jammie Robinson to the active roster from the Kansas City practice squad. They’ve also released defensive lineman Keith Cooper from the practice squad and signed safety Loren Strickland to the practice squad.
The big news here, of course, is signing Robinson. He’s a 2023 fifth-round pick by the Carolina Panthers, and according to the Detroit News, he’s “been on general manager Brad Holmes’ radar for some time.” Richard Silva of the Detroit News adds in a Thursday, October 16 feature, “Robinson has versatility at nickel or safety, but head coach Dan Campbell expects him to ‘probably’ begin working at safety in Detroit.”
Robinson is in his third season with the NFL and spent the first two with the Panthers. He has played in 21 games and recorded 20 tackles, so he has real-life NFL experience. He was also with the Arizona Cardinals for a bit during the 2024 season.
Also, the safety moves totally make since, because the Lions needed an extra safety for this week with Brian Branch suspended for one game due to his postgame actions against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Where the Detroit Lions Are in Week 7
ESPN has released their Week 7 power rankings, and the Lions are still in a good spot. While the tally has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 1, the Lions are still No. 2.
In the piece, ESPN’s Eric Woodyard says that we’ve learned that “Aidan Hutchinson has returned to elite form after severe leg injury.”
“A broken leg ended Hutchinson’s 2024 season early, but he picked up where he left off as one of the league’s elite pass rushers,” Woodyard notes. “He set a single-season team record by producing at least 1.0 sacks in five consecutive games, in addition to another franchise mark of four straight games with a forced fumble. His 24 pressures is also the most in the NFL, as he’s moving fluidly after a tough rehabilitation process.”
Meanwhile, the NFL has the Lions at No. 2, CBS Sports has them at No. 5 and Alternative Fix has them at No. 1. The team’s next game, yes, is against the Bucs, who are 5-1, so it’s going to be a challenge. Fingers crossed the Lions can do it.
