Detroit Lions Finally Get Good Injury News (And Just in Time)

The Detroit Lions are getting closer and closer to their season opener, and they’ll set off on their regular season against the Green Bay Packers on the road on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 4:25 p.m. Eastern time. This year will be a major year for the Detroit Lions, since they’re coming off two strong seasons with the kind of stellar records that have made them contenders in the NFL. So, will their reign last, even without Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn? Hopefully.

It’s been the norm for the Detroit Lions to be ranked one of the strongest and best teams in the NFL for the 2025-26 season, so there are good vibes all around. But, as with last season, there have already been a lot of injuries in the Lions’ camp, which is really rough. The last thing this team needs is to have a repeat of last season, when they were one of the most injured teams in the league. Plus, it’s possible the Lions wouldn’t have lost in a surprise way to the Washington Commanders in that first game in the playoffs if they had a healthy squad.

Now, the Lions have finally gotten some positive injury news. It’s about time, right? One of the Lions’ favorite players is going to be back for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.

The Detroit Lions will head into their Week 1 matchup with good news. Following missing a good chunk of training camp with an undisclosed problem, star tight end Sam LaPorta wasn’t listed on the Lions’ first injury report, which means he should be ready for Sunday’s opener against the Green Bay Packers.

LaPorta was back at practice in late August, and he also spent that time working out to get fit enough for the season. Last season, he notched 60 catches, 726 yards, and seven touchdowns.

Praise for Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions

More good news for the Lions this week came in the form of Goff being named the No. 15 best player in the NFL on the league’s annual roster.

“The Lions have flipped 180 degrees from the bottom of the barrel to darlings of the league and Super Bowl contenders in just the last few years, and the arrival of Goff has been a big reason why,” Coral Smith of the NFL notes in an August 25 feature. “In 2024, his ninth year in the league, Goff was one of the best quarterbacks around, ranking top-five in completion percentage, passing yards and touchdowns.”

Smith adds that Goff “spearheaded Detroit’s No. 1-ranked offense to the tune of a franchise record 15 wins and a second straight NFC North crown after having never done so before the 2023 season.” Of course, she adds that the team still has to get to the Super Bowl, even with the loss of Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, “but the evidence indicates Goff remains an elite QB even as he gets ready to hit a decade in the NFL.”

It’s great to see the Lions get some positive news, and right in time for the season to start. Let them roar.
