Detroit Lions Make Official Christmas Game Announcement

The Detroit Lions‘ postseason chances hangs on every remaining regular season game, including the team’s Pittsburgh Steelers showdown on Sunday, December 21, at home. But, aside form the Steelers event, the Detroit Lions also have a Christmas Day on Thursday, December 25, against the Minnesota Vikings on the road.

If the Lions beat the Steelers on Sunday, they’ll still have a chance to make the postseason, and that will make the stakes for the Vikings game even higher. If they fall, they’ll simply be playing for pride against Minnesota. But, either way, playing a rival in the NFC North always makes for an exciting game. The Minnesota Vikings are already out of playoff contention.

So, the Detroit Lions are firmly focused on taking on Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers, but they’re also looking ahead to the Vikings. Now, the Lions have made an announcement about their Christmas Day game.

Detroit Lions Finalize Christmas Day Game Details

The Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings officially have a halftime performer, and he might ask them to “Drop It Like It’s Hot.”

On Wednesday, December 16, the Lions and Vikings announced that the halftime act for their Christmas Day game on Netflix will be Snoop Dogg, with the show dubbed “Snoop’s Holiday Halftime Party.”

“Snoop Dogg takes the reins at halftime, promising chart-topping tracks, plenty of holiday spirit, and special guests, making for what is sure to be an unforgettable performance,” read an announcement from the official Vikings team website.

NFL, Netflix and your uncle Snoop on Christmas Day?” Dogg said of the show show in a statement. “We’re servin’ up music, love and good vibes for the whole world to enjoy. That’s the kind of holiday magic Santa can’t fit in a bag.”

“Christmas Gameday just got a whole lot cooler,” Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief Ccontent officer, said in a statement. “We’re uniting two global cultural juggernauts, the NFL and the one and only Snoop Dogg, who will drop the hottest halftime show.”

She added, “As a West Coast girl and huge fan myself, I can confidently say this is the ultimate gift we could give our members. We’re ready to drop it like it’s hot this holiday celebration!”

The Road to the Postseason for the Detroit Lions

It’s possible for the Detroit Lions to get to the postseason, but it’s hard to sugarcoat the situation. In order for the Lions to make it, they’ll have to win out the remainder of their season.

After the Lions’ loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Detroit, according to NFL research, have just a 41% probability of getting to the playoffs. They’ll have to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears over the next three weeks. Looking at the other teams in the NFC North, the Bears and Green Bay Packers already have a high chance of getting to the postseason, and the Minnesota Vikings, as mentioned previously, are out.

Both the Steelers and Lions have 8-6 records going into their Sunday game, but the Steelers have a better chance of getting to the postseason at 61%, according to research from the NFL.
