No matter how Dallas Cowboys fans may feel about former edge rusher Micah Parsons, you never want to see something like this happen.
Parsons, who was traded to the Green Bay Packers in August, suffered what appeared to be a devastating, non-contact knee injury in Week 15 against the Denver Broncos.
Parsons writhed on the ground after the injury but was able to limp off the field and walk to the locker room with assistance afterward.
“The initial belief is that Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons suffered a torn ACL today,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on on his official X account. “There will be further testing to see if that is the case.”
One of the most dominant defensive players in Cowboys history, Parsons was traded to the Packers in exchange for 2 first round picks and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark.
Green Bay made him the highest paid defensive player in NFL history when they signed him to a 4-year, $186 million contract extension the same day as the trade.
Parsons entered Week 15 with 12.5 sacks in 13 games â one of only 2 players with at least 12 sacks in each of their first 5 seasons alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Reggie White.
“Parsons left with an apparent knee injury in the third quarter and it didn’t look good at all,” CBS Sports play-by-play commentator Jim Nantz said during the broadcast.
“Video caught Parsons sending a two-word message to the sideline following his injury, which makes the injury appear like seriously bad news for the Packers.” Heavy.com’s Max Dible wrote on December 14.
âIâm out,â Parsons said while sitting on the field, per video posted to X by the MLFootball account.
Parsons’ 2024 Injury Raised Concerns for Dallas
Part of the reason the Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones seemed hesitant to offer Parsons the massive contract extension he and his agent were looking for were concerns about his ability to stay healthy.
In 2024, Parsons missed multiple games for the first time in his career when he sat out 4 games with a high ankle sprain, although he was still named NFL All-Pro and selected to the Pro Bowl with 12.0 sacks in 13 games.
Without Parsons and quarterback Dak Prescott, who missed 10 games with a hamstring injury, the Cowboys stumbled to a 7-10 record after going 12-5 in each of Parsons’ first 3 seasons.
Dallas’ offseason was defined by the contentious contract negotiations between Jones and Parsons â a daily soap opera which only ended when Parsons was dealt to the Packers in one of the biggest blockbuster trades in NFL history.
Packers’ Super Bowl Hopes Might Be Cooked
The Packers entered Week 15 as one of the NFC’s leading Super Bowl contenders.
Without Parsons, it’s hard to imagine them making that type of run.
