Diddy Spotted With Former NBA Player in Prison: Report

New photos show Sean “Diddy” Combs chatting with former NBA guard Sebastian Telfair inside the yard at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, linking two New York names now serving time at the same low-security federal facility. The images, published by TMZ, capture the pair talking during recreation time over the weekend.

Combs, 55, is serving a 50-month sentence following his October 3 federal sentencing on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, according to Reuters. He was acquitted of more serious racketeering and sex-trafficking charges. After spending more than a year at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, Combs was transferred late last week to Fort Dix, where he’s slated for a projected release in May 2028, per court coverage and transfer reports.

Telfair, 40, reported to Fort Dix in August to serve six months after violating conditions of his supervised release tied to the NBA players’ health and welfare benefit plan fraud case. Multiple outlets have reported that he failed to meet release requirements, leading a judge to order prison time.

How They Landed at Fort Dix

Fort Dix is a low-security federal prison with an adjacent minimum-security camp in Burlington County, New Jersey. The Bureau of Prisons lists the facility as housing more than 4,000 inmates. Combs’ attorneys sought the placement to allow him to participate in treatment programs and be closer to family, according to transfer reports.

Combs’ 50-month sentence followed a high-profile trial and sentencing hearing in Manhattan federal court. He apologized in court, while prosecutors pressed for more than 11 years, citing abuse allegations spanning years. The court credited time he had already served since his 2024 arrest.

Who is Sebastian Telfair

GettySebastian Telfair was once thought to be the next great point guard in the NBA, but his career never fully manifested in that way.

Telfair, a former first-round pick by the Portland Trail Blazers and Brooklyn high-school phenom, and subject of an at-the-time major documentary, Through The Fire, made a 10-year career out of an underwhelming start to his NBA journey. Thanks in part to significant hype with the documentary and growing up in a major media market in New York, as well as being the cousin of NBA star Stephon Marbury, many projected Telfair to be a surefire NBA star.

He was one of many high school players drafted by Portland Trail Blazers in the 2000s, as many teams tried to find the next big thing right out of the high school ranks, a la Kevin Garnett. This led, in part, to the NBA instituting new rules on the age and being one year removed from high school before becoming eligible for the NBA Draft (while different rules apply to international players).

Telfair never reached star status in the NBA, but did carve out a 10-year career, appearing in 564 games for eight different teams. He held career averages of 8.4 points and 2.8 assists per game.

Where Telfair’s Case Stands

Telfair was among at least 18 ex-NBA players charged in 2021 in the health plan fraud scheme, which federal prosecutors said involved false claims for dental and medical procedures. He initially avoided prison with time served and supervised release but later ran afoul of the terms, drawing the six-month sentence and an August report date to Fort Dix.

Ahead of reporting, Telfair publicly appealed for a presidential pardon and repeated the request in interviews, saying he wanted another chance to comply. He has roughly a few months remaining on the current term at the low-security facility.

The Yard Conversation & the Pardon Angle

TMZ’s photos show Combs chatting with several inmates, including Telfair, during outdoor recreation. A representative for Telfair confirmed he appears in a couple of the images with Combs. The sighting comes as both men’s names have surfaced in conversations about potential presidential clemency, though no such action has been announced.

Reports on Combs’ transfer note a projected release date in May 2028, subject to program participation and standard federal good-time calculations. Fort Dix’s programming options and lower security level often factor into placement requests for first-time or non-violent federal inmates.
