Disturbing New Details Surface in Felony Case Against Ex-Lakers Guard Beverley

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Patrick Beverley is facing disturbing new allegations after his younger sister accused him of grabbing her by the neck and punching her in the left eye during an incident earlier this month, according to TMZ Sports.

The report states that Beverley’s sister left the family home without permission in the middle of the night on Nov. 14 to meet her boyfriend at a nearby park. When she returned, her mother, identified as Lisa, was awake and instructed her to go to her room and call her boyfriend to pick her up.

When the boyfriend arrived, he was told to enter the residence. Lisa then contacted Beverley and asked him to come over.

Beverley’s Sister Claims She Was Lifted by the Neck, Unable to Breathe

According to TMZ Sports, Beverley confronted his sister before allegedly grabbing her by the neck “with both hands” and lifting her off the ground, causing her feet to leave the floor.

She told investigators the pressure on her neck caused pain and made her feel as if she was “losing oxygen” and unable to breathe. The alleged choking lasted approximately 20 to 30 seconds.

The sister stated that Beverley then dragged her out of the bedroom by the neck and slammed her against the walls in an open area of the house. She claims he placed her on the sofa, stood over her, and punched her once in the left eye with a closed fist.

The affidavit obtained by TMZ Sports further alleges Beverley made a threatening comment, telling her that he would be the “family relative to kill her.”

After the boyfriend was told to leave, Beverley allegedly followed him outside. When he later returned to the home, the sister said her boyfriend had already called authorities for help.

Officials said they observed visible markings on her neck and petechiae—tiny red spots indicating pressure—in the whites of her eyes.

Beverley was taken into custody and booked for felony assault in Fort Bend County, Texas.

Beverley Pushes Back on Allegations After Posting Bail

The 37-year-old former NBA guard addressed the public hours after posting $40,000 bail, urging fans not to draw conclusions based on early reports.

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾,” Beverley wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

In a statement released through his attorney, Beverley disputed the characterization of the incident and insisted he acted out of concern for his sister’s safety.

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor,” the statement read. “When he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described, and we look forward to addressing that in court.”

The statement suggests Beverley plans to contest the charge and frame his actions as protective rather than violent.

Arrest Adds to String of Recent Off-Court Incidents

Beverley has not played in the NBA since May 2, 2024, when he appeared for the Milwaukee Bucks in a playoff loss to the Indiana Pacers. Late in that game, Beverley threw a basketball into the stands, striking a fan, then asked another fan for the ball and threw it again. The NBA handed him a four-game NBA suspension, and he faced a civil lawsuit from the fans involved.

The lawsuit accused Beverley of causing physical pain, emotional distress, humiliation, and financial damages.

More recently, Beverley and former NBA player Jason Williams drew significant backlash for making crude comments about Dallas Mavericks forward Klay Thompson and his girlfriend, Grammy-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion. Williams used a vulgar term to describe women’s influence on athletes, prompting Thompson to publicly condemn the remarks as “disgusting and disturbing.”

Court Appearance Expected in Coming Weeks

Beverley, who played for the Lakers during the 2022–23 NBA season, is expected to appear in court as the case moves forward. He faces a third-degree felony charge of assault of a family or household member by impeding breath or circulation.

The investigation remains active.

Beverley was a three-time NBA All-Defensive guard who also played for the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls and the Philadelphia 76ers.
