Dodgers Eye Blockbuster Trade for All-Star Outfielder

The Los Angeles Dodgers could be setting up another big splash this offseason. 

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, via Sports Illustrated, the Dodgers “nearly traded” for Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan at the 2025 deadline.

Kwan would give the Dodgers a major defensive and contact-hitting upgrade after a 2025 season filled with inconsistency in the outfield.  

He is considered by many to be one of baseball’s most complete outfielders. 

Kwan would bring the exact profile Los Angeles lacked in 2025 as the offense troubled for most of the postseason. 

Despite the Dodgers’ World Series win, the Dodgers are lookinf to add more.

President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman admitted during his end-of-season press conference that the team will “look to add more versatility and on-base production” before 2026.  

“We feel good about our group,” Friedman said in October, “but there’s always room to get more dynamic.”

With Kwan coming off another Gold Glove and All-Star campaign, it’s no surprise the Dodgers are exploring another massive swing for one of baseball’s most complete outfielders.

How Kwan Fills a Critical Dodgers Need

Even with their stacked lineup, the Dodgers struggled to find reliability in left field.

Michael Conforto, signed to a one-year deal, batted just .199 with a .638 OPS, easily the lowest mark of his career.

Additionally, Andy Pages mightily struggled In the outfield throughout the postseason. 

In the playoffs, he hit .078 with no home runs and an on base percentage of .113. It was one of the worst hitting postseasons in playoff history. 

That’s where Steven Kwan fits perfectly.

A two-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner, Kwan is elite in the field and rarely strikes out, owning a career 8.7% strikeout rate which is the best among qualified MLB hitters.

 In 2025, he hit .272 with 11 home runs, 56 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases. 

According to Baseball Savant, Kwan ranked in the 100th percentile for whiff rate and 95th percentile for outs above average. 

He is one of baseball’s toughest outs and most dependable defenders. 

Why a Trade Makes Sense

The Dodgers have the assets to make it happen.

The Dodgers have six prospects in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100, including outfielder Josue De Paula, catcher Dalton Rushing, and right-hander Nick Frasso. 

They have the young talent to easily construct a deal strong enough to entice Cleveland. 

For Friedman, adding Kwan could help balance a lineup loaded with power bats like Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and Max Muncy. 

His high-contact, low-strikeout style of play could be a huge tone setter at the top of the lineup. 

A blockbuster deal like this would only fuel the growing “Dodgers are ruining baseball” sentiment.

It would spark league-wide reactions as the Dodgers continue its push for a historic three-peat.
