Dodgers Get Big Injury Boost with Four Key Players Close to Returning From

The Los Angeles Dodgers find themselves in the middle of a tightly contested race atop the National League West division with the San Diego Padres. Heading into play on Monday, the Dodgers hold just a one-game lead over the Padres, and with only a couple of weeks left in the regular season, this race is only just beginning to heat up.

All season long, Los Angeles has been battered by injuries, and it’s clear they could use some reinforcements as they enter the final stretch of the season. According to manager Dave Roberts, it sounds like several players are close to returning to action, which could provide the team the boost it needs to keep San Diego at arm’s length.

Dave Roberts Provides Several Injury Updates for Dodgers

L.A. is widely believed to have the most talent on its roster of any team in the league, but that hasn’t really mattered this season, because they have had to deal with so many injuries. While they aren’t exactly short on star players, Roberts has had his work cut out for him when it comes to piecing things together, particularly with the pitching staff.

Time is running out for some of these guys to get back on the field, but it sounds like several key players are close to returning. On Monday, third baseman Max Muncy and relief pitcher Alex Vesia are both expected to be activated from the injured list, with both guys dealing with oblique strains that forced them to miss a couple of weeks of action.

They aren’t the only guys close to returning, though. Star starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow could make a start in the team’s upcoming series against the Colorado Rockies after suffering a scare with a back injury recently, while Tommy Edman is also close to being activated from the injured list after suffering a sprained right ankle early in August.

“Dave Roberts said Max Muncy and Alex Vesia are expected to be active tomorrow, with Tommy Edman at some point after that. Plan is for Tyler Glasnow to start a game in the Rockies series,” Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic shared in a post on X.

Each of these four guys has played key roles in the Dodgers’ 2025 campaign to this point, so getting them all back would be huge amid the team’s tightly contested playoff push. The Padres have been rolling since their explosive body of work at the trade deadline, so if L.A. doesn’t keep on winning, it could quickly find itself in some trouble.

For now, Los Angeles is focused on its upcoming three-game set with the lowly Rockies, which should provide the team a great opportunity to add to its win total. While Glasnow could take the mound this series, he won’t be pitching in the opener, as Shohei Ohtani will take the mound against Chase Dollander on Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET.
