Dodgers Get Promising News in Pursuit of 47-Home Run Slugger

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on top of the world right now. The National League West club finished the 2025 season with a 93-69 record, which was good enough to win their division.

The Dodgers then defeated the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, and Toronto Blue Jays in the playoffs to win their second consecutive World Series championship and third since 2020. Needless to say, Dodgers fans are very happy right now with the club.

Now, the Dodgers are looking to make their stacked roster even better this offseason, as they have been linked to multiple big-name free agents. The biggest name that the Dodgers have been connected to is star free agent Kyle Tucker, and it makes sense when noting that they could use an upgrade in right field.

Yet, with Tucker being a top free agent, the four-time All-Star is generating a ton of interest. Teams like the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees have been heavily linked to him, so the Dodgers have competition to land his services.

As a result of this, the Dodgers may now have a backup plan if they miss out on Tucker with one of their former stars: Cody Bellinger.

Dodgers Predicted to be Among Potential Frontrunners for Bellinger

In a recent article for The Athletic, Jim Bowden named the Dodgers as one of the best fits for Bellinger in free agency. In addition, Bowden noted that Bellinger’s preference would be to head back to Los Angeles if things do not work out with his top choice, the Yankees.

“If a Yankees or Mets deal doesn’t work out and the Dodgers don’t sign Tucker, a return to LA is possible for Bellinger. It sounds like a return to the Dodgers would be Bellinger’s second choice to re-signing with the Yankees.”

If the Dodgers miss out on Tucker, a reunion with Bellinger could make a ton of sense. The 30-year-old slugger just had a strong season with the Yankees, as he had 29 home runs, 98 RBIs, and a .272 batting average in 152 games. With numbers like these, he would certainly give the Dodgers’ offense more pop.

While Bellinger struggled during the final years of his Dodgers tenure, there is no question that he still had plenty of success there. He most notably had 47 home runs, 115 RBIs, and a .305 batting average as a Dodger in 2019, which led to him being named NL MVP. He also was a two-time All-Star with the Dodgers, won the World Series with Los Angeles in 2020, and was the NLCS MVP in 2018. Perhaps all of this could make the Dodgers be open to a reunion.

Dodgers Have Big Competition in the Bellinger Sweepstakes

If the Dodgers make a push for Bellinger, there is no question that they will have a lot of competition. The two teams that Bellinger have been linked to the most are the Yankees and new York Mets. It is exactly why Bowden listed those two clubs ahead of the Dodgers as the best fits for Bellinger.

Given how well Bellinger played this past season with the Yankees, it makes sense that they want to bring the star slugger back. As for the Mets, they could use another impactful hitter in their lineup, so Bellinger could be a nice fit on their roster if signed.
