Dodgers’ Hometown Hero Gets Bad News on LA Future: Report

The Los Angeles Dodgers might not have won the World Series in 2025 if it weren’t for Tyler Glasnow. While he wasn’t perfect all postseason, he was the team’s second-best pitcher behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

The Los Angeles native wasn’t able to pitch in the postseason last year, but was able to play some big games in front of his hometown crowd. Glasnow is an excellent pitcher and would be the ace on many teams, but the Dodgers could be looking to upgrade.

Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal is arguably the best pitcher in baseball and could get traded. If the Dodgers want him, it may cost them Glasnow. According to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, the Dodgers are at least open to the idea.

“Tyler Glasnow’s name has come up in conversations, and the Dodgers would not be opposed to moving him,” Gonzalez wrote. “He’s poised to make a combined $60 million over the next two years, with either a $30 million club option or a $21.6 million player option in 2028. But the quality of his stuff continues to tantalize executives throughout the industry, and there are certainly a fair share of teams that will bank on him staying healthy enough to make it worthwhile. Maybe he’s part of the package that brings Tarik Skubal to L.A. It’s a long shot, perhaps, but wilder things have happened.”

Should Dodgers Trade Glasnow for Skubal?

The biggest concern with a Skubal trade is that he’s on an expiring deal. It’s going to cost perhaps the largest contract for a pitcher in MLB history to sign him.

Glasnow is under team control for at least three more seasons, so the Dodgers can’t trade for Skubal without some kind of handshake deal in place. Unfortunately for Glasnow, Skubal would be an upgrade for Los Angeles.

He’s younger, less injury prone and just a better pitcher. That’s not a knock on Glasnow; it’s more of a testament to how dominant Skubal is. Now, the Dodgers are going to have to offer up more than just Glasnow to get Skubal, but for the Tigers, it has to be an appealing starting point.

What About Emmet Sheehan?

The Tigers might also be more keen on adding a young pitcher from the Dodgers. Emmett Sheehan is one of the most promising young pitchers in baseball. He pitched some great innings for the Dodgers in the World Series.

Rumors have suggested that the Tigers like Sheehan a lot. It’s hard to imagine they’d turn down a trade that sent Glasnow and Sheehan to Detroit for Skubal. However, that’s likely too much for the Dodgers to stomach.

Sheehan has ace potential, and Glasnow is an All-Star. Skubal is a great player, but he’s also just one player who still needs a contract. The Dodgers’ pitching rotation is already fantastic. Yamamoto could argue that he’s every bit as good as Skubal and Blake Snell is a two-time Cy Young Award winner. That’s before even mentioning Shohei Ohtani. Adding Skubal gives the Dodgers possibly the greatest collection of starting pitchers ever, but the cost might simply be too high.
