Dodgers Legend Clayton Kershaw’s Emotional NLDS Return Ends in Heartbreak

With the Los Angeles Dodgers trailing 3-1 against the Philadelphia Phillies, manager Dave Roberts made the emotional call to the bullpen in the seventh inning, calling upon legendary pitcher Clayton Kershaw in what could be his final career appearance at Dodger Stadium.

As Clutch Points noted, Kershaw jogged into “We Are Young” by Fun. The Dodger Stadium crowd erupted.

Kershaw gave up a few hits in the seventh inning but was able to escape without giving up any runs.

But the eighth inning told a different story and could not have been more of a disaster.

Dave Robert’s Poor Decision to Leave Kershaw in the Game

Clayton Kershaw clearly did not have his best stuff in the seventh, but Dave Roberts decided to bring him out again for the eighth.

That decision completely backfired.

Kershaw gave up a solo home run to J.T. Realmuto then walked Max Kepler as the Phillies began to rally. A defensive miscue by Max Muncy prolonged the inning, and Kershaw’s fatigue began to show.

Trea Turner then drove in two more runs with a sharp single before Schwarber delivered the final blow. He hit a three-run homer that broke the game wide open at 8-1 for his second home run of the night,

It felt as though Dave Roberts had waved the white flag, leaving his veteran ace out there far too long in a game that was quickly slipping away.

Many Los Angeles are beginning to question another poor postseason decision from their manager.

NLDS Series Outlook

After winning games 1 and 2 in Philadelphia, it felt like the Dodgers had this series in complete control.

But after tonight, the momentum is slowly starting to shift back to the Phillies. Their biggest stars rose to the occasion when it mattered most as Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Kyle Schwarber all delivered in key moments, combining for clutch hits that broke the game open and silenced the Dodger Stadium crowd.

After a dominant win in Game 3, the Phillies will turn to their ace Christopher Sanchez in Game 4 to try and keep their season alive once again.

The Dodgers will send out Tyler Glasnow, who had a 3.19 ERA on the season, as their starting pitcher,

Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at 3:08 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on TBS.

It’s a heartbreaking way for Kershaw to potentially go out, but it doesn’t erase a legendary career defined by excellence, loyalty, and a legacy that will live forever in Dodger Blue.
