Dodgers Trade Deadline Acquistion Speaks Out on Returning to LA

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a couple of moves at the trade deadline, one of which saw them reunite with veteran relief pitcher Brock Stewart. And after he initially broke into the majors with the Dodgers back in 2016, it sounds like Stewart is pumped to be back in town as he looks to help L.A. repeat as World Series champions.

The Dodgers’ pitching staff is once again dealing with a slew of injuries, which led the front office to pursue Stewart from the Minnesota Twins. And while getting traded midway through the season isn’t always easy, Stewart sounded thrilled at the prospect of returning to Los Angeles and helping the team in their quest to win their second straight title.

Brock Stewart’s Hyped Reaction to Returning to Dodgers

Stewart initially found his way to the big leagues with the Dodgers, but he pitched sparingly for them over the next few seasons before he got released and scooped up by the Toronto Blue Jays. After spending a brief period with the Chicago Cubs, Stewart spent the 2020 campaign pitching for the independent Chicago Deep Dish team, and while that eventually resulted in him returning to the Dodgers, he ended up undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing the 2021 season.

That led Stewart to the Twins, where he reinvented himself as a dynamic relief pitcher. Stewart made a triumphant return to the majors in 2023, as he posted a 0.65 ERA over 28 outings, racking up 39 strikeouts along the way. He struggled in 2024 thanks to some shoulder injuries, but he returned to form in 2025, posting a 2.38 ERA in 39 outings for Minnesota before he got traded.

Now, Stewart is back with Los Angeles, and his role with the team is more important than it has ever been, as he will be getting used in big spots for a playoff-contending team. While some guys might shy away from that sort of role, Stewart is heading in the opposite direction, as he’s super excited to be pitching for a World Series contender like the Dodgers.

“To come to a winning team, a defending champ, to help them defend that championship and hopefully have a chance at another one, I’m thrilled to be here,” Stewart said via Spectrum SportsNet Los Angeles.

The list of injured Dodgers pitchers is quite long, as key relievers Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates, Brusdar Graterol, Michael Kopech, and Evan Phillips headline the list of players being forced to watch games from the dugout currently. That means that right off the bat, Stewart is going to have his work cut out for him when it comes to filling in for these guys.

The good news is that Stewart has been lights out this season, although pitching for a small-market Minnesota team is much different than pitching in Los Angeles. It’s an environment Stewart got thrown into right from the get-go, though, and he will look to emerge as a key contributor for the Dodgers in their upcoming playoff run.
