Dolphins’ Best Corner Goes Down With Leg Injury

The Miami Dolphins lost veteran cornerback Artie Burns for the season during the first practice of the year. Now, just two practices later, fans get more bad news as the team’s top corner, Kader Kohou, went down with an apparent leg injury upon getting tangled up with WR1 Tyreek Hill.

NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe broke the story at 10:15 Saturday morning.

“Dolphins’ Kader Kohou — their No.1 CB — appeared to suffer a leg injury during 1-on-1 drills in practice. He walked off the field and into the building gingerly but under his own power,” the post read.

Sunday’s practice wrapped up just an hour ago, no reports have been made about the status of Kohou. However, the Palm Beach Post’s Hal Habib provided an encouraging update.

“The positive news is that Kohou got up after initially limping badly and receiving attention on the sideline as a concerned defensive coordinator, Anthony Weaver, looked on,” Habib recites. “Kohou walked inside with trainers, his steps improving as he got closer to the building to the point that the limp was barely noticeable.

There was no contact on the play.”

Kader Kohou Prepares For Increased Role

Kohou is the heir apparent to Jalen Ramsey. After spending his first few years in the slot, the three-year starter is ready to take his talents to a move high leverage position on the outside.

The Phins covered their tracks just a few hours after Kohou went down, signing veteran corner Mike Hilton; though it was confirmed that the deal was in the works before the injury. Hilton joins recent signee Jack Jones as another newcomer to challenge for a starting role.

Even so, Kohou’s position in the depth chart was never in jeopardy. He knew what the Ramsey trade meant for his role, and he told the media last week that he’s ready for anything.

“I’m going to play wherever the coaches need me,” Kohou said. “If that’s on the boundary, nickel, D-end, D-tackle, I’m ready to go anywhere.”

Kohou then told the room of reporters that he has no worries about the position switch, stating that everybody in the locker room is goal oriented. He feels the coaches will do a good job of putting this cornerback room in the position to succeed the way Ramsey did.

Dolphins Surpass Expectations

No more details have been made public about the severity of the injury, but assuming Kohou will be healthy for Week 1 mean’s the Dolphins have completely change the narrative surrounding this cornerback room.

With only $1.2 million in cap space just one week ago, the media was calling on the Phins to make a cornerback singing. Some speculated (it’s me, I’m some) that the Phins would have to hold off on making a singing, sitting on their money to prepare for a midseason injury.

Well that injury came sooner rather than later when Artie Burns went down and the team wasted no time finding his replacement. Now, after the media begged them to sign a cornerback, the Dolphins welcome in two proven starters in this league.

Hilton is a career slot corner, while Jack Jones has been electric on the outside since his rookie year with the New England Patriots. The Dolphins took $1.2 million and two injuries and turned it into two potential starters in the team’s weakest room.

This front office deserves a, cautious, cap tip.
