Dolphins Defense Gains Edge, Work Ethic With Recent Addition

The Miami Dolphins recently added a big name to their pass rush rotation, and he’s not coming to Miami for palm trees and sunshine.

Matt Judon, the Pro-Bowl pass rusher, is ready to put in the work.

In a recent feature, NFL.com Editor Grant Gordon shared how Judon is ready to make up for lost time with his new squad.

With the Dolphins defense having had its fair share of turmoil, adding Judon is a welcomed addition.

Judon is coming in with an edge, a worth ethic and to prove he has plenty left in the tank.

Judon’s Mindset Fits Dolphins Mentality

Judon’s comments hit harder than any highlight reel.

“It ain’t about kind of coming down here and enjoying myself and relaxing,” Gordon highlighted from the Dolphins transcript.

Instead, he talked about work, showing up every day and setting the tone.

“I had enough time while everybody was at camp to relax and views. “It’s about the work I put in, coming in here and hurrying up and getting acclimated with the system, learning kind of the locker room traditions and the culture that they are building around here.”

This attitude matters.

The Dolphins have plenty of young players on defense and will need every veteran on defense to set this mindset.

It is clear that with the addition of Judon, his presence will help raise the expectations of the Dolphins defense.

Judon is coming off a fairly productive 2024 season with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Dolphins edge rusher had 5.5 sacks with Atlanta last season and is looking to have similar production with his new group.

Judon isn’t in Miami to coast and put his feet up, he’s here to lead and dare his teammates to follow suit.

Edge Rotation Stronger With Judon

The Dolphins didn’t just add a veteran leader, they added some more firepower.

Judon now joins Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb and Chop Robinson.

“J.P. and Chubb, they also have a body of work they’ve put on tape. From afar I’ve been watching those guys and we kind of know each other off the field as well. I think that’s a big thing; I don’t have to come in here and be the guy right away,” said Judon via Grant Gordon’s feature.

In addition, this edge rotation looks to be one of the deepest units in the NFL.

Last season, injuries plagued the Dolphins edge unit, with Chubb and Phillips both missing time.

Now, with the addition of Judon and another year of growth for Robinson, the Dolphins can throw wave after wave at opposing offenses.

“I can let them guys go out and do what they do and I can just plug and play. However they see me fit or however they see us all four working together, especially Chop, he’s coming into his own,” said Judon.

Moreover, this kind of rotation provides Miami with flexibility.

They can move pieces, disguise blitzes and keep bodies fresh.

With the Dolphins secondary in limbo, having a strong defensive front will help immensely.

The Dolphins now have a veteran leader who is looking to do all but put his feet up in South Florida.

Miami now has a pass rush of four players that will serve as a pivotal piece in the Dolphins’ 2025 season’s success.
