The Miami Dolphins are a complete mess, and heading into Week 7, they are running the risk of completely falling apart. A win over the Cleveland Browns would go a long way towards helping head coach Mike McDaniel restore some order in the building, but even that likely won’t prevent the team from selling at the upcoming trade deadline in a couple of weeks.
With a 1-5 record, several playoff contenders are keeping close tabs on the Dolphins in the event they decide to start selling off their spare parts. However, ahead of the team’s upcoming action, McDaniel issued a strong message on the trade rumors surrounding his players that will surely catch the attention of folks.
Mike McDaniel Shoots Down Dolphins’ Trade Rumors
It hasn’t been all that surprising to see trade rumors start popping up in Miami. With just one win so far, chances are the front office is well aware that the 2025 season is already a wash. A rebuild very well may be on the horizon, which could lead the team to unload several key players in an effort to recoup some value before it’s too late.
The rumors surrounding the Dolphins aren’t limited just to the players, though. McDaniel has been on the hot seat for months now, and it seems inevitable that he will get fired at some point in the near future. General manager Chris Grier also seems likely to be headed to the exit door with McDaniel. The only problem is that team owner Stephen Ross doesn’t appear to be in a rush to can either of these guys midway through the season.
McDaniel has certainly heard the chatter about his job security, and while that doesn’t appear to have bothered him too much, hearing rumors about his players set him off. McDaniel addressed the trade rumors swirling around the Dolphins on Friday, labeling them all as “baseless” for the time being.
“It’s tricky,” McDaniel said of the trade rumors swirling around the Dolphins. “Just for the record, all rumors about Miami Dolphins players are baseless currently … We’re focused on the Browns, and I try not to give legs to any of those rumors, but if I was an individual player, it probably wouldn’t be the greatest thing to hear.”
Are the Dolphins’ Trade Rumors Truly ‘Baseless’?

GettyDespite the Dolphins struggles, the team reportedly has no interest in firing Mike McDaniel
The Dolphins may not be actively discussing a trade, but does that mean the trade rumors surrounding the team are “baseless”? Absolutely not. If Miami keeps on losing, it is going to move on from several players, regardless of what McDaniel says. At some point, something has to be done to get this team back on track.
The best way to make rumors go away in the NFL is to win football games, which is something the Dolphins have been unable to do very often this season. However, they have a good shot to get back in the win column in Week 7, as their opponent, the Browns, also only has one win. This could be a sneaky important game for both Miami and Cleveland, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
