Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa Sets Record Straight On Relationship With Tyreek Hill

Tua Tagovailoa garnered attention with recent comments about his relationship with Miami Dolphins co-star Tyreek Hill. He decided to set the record straight about how his connection with the wide receiver actually looks.

What he said during a Dolphins training camp session on July 23 went viral, saying the connection is still a work in progress, per Pro Football Talk.

“We’re still continuing to do that, but it’s not just with me, it’s with a lot of the guys. I’m not the only one that heard that. You guys aren’t the only people that heard that. A lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, that follow Tyreek, that are fans of his, everyone has seen that,” Tagovailoa said.

“So when you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, ‘Hey, my bad.’ You’ve got to work that relationship up, you’ve got to build everything up again. It’s still a work in progress, not just for me but for everybody. But like I said, he’s working on himself, he’s working on the things he says he wants to get better with and do better on. So that’s the first step to me so I commend him for doing that.”

Seeing the attention he got for his comments, he cleared the air about his bond with Hill. Being teammates for three years, Tagovailoa said he wasn’t trying to call the receiver out. Instead, he was focusing on what happened near the end of last season.

“I don’t feel it’s me talking bad about my teammate,” Tagovailoa said on NFL Network. “I’m just trying to hold him accountable, because that’s what we try to do with everyone on our team. And if this is what we say the standard is, that’s what the standard is, and no one is exempt from it.”

With the 2025 NFL season coming up, Tua Tagovailoa wants to make sure there is no drama going on between him and Tyreek Hill. He is trying to assure that the Dolphins start the campaign on a positive note.

The 2024 season wasn’t pleasant for Miami, especially Tagovailoa. He suffered a concussion against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 12, which had him miss five consecutive games.

In the 11 games he took part in, Tagovailoa completed 291 passes for 2,867 yards and 19 touchdowns. However, his efforts weren’t enough as the Dolphins finished 8-9 but were unable to miss the playoffs.

Miami’s chances of success depend on Tagovailoa being healthy throughout the course of the regular season. The squad have proved themselves to be a solid unit when their best players are out on the field. However, injuries will continue to be a nuisance as Tagovailoa figures out ways to avoid suffering another concussion.

As for his connection with Hill, the quarterback will hope that he can have his co-star on the same page. Miami has the talent to make noise in the AFC. What matters now is if they can put the pieces together to have a great campaign.
