Dolphins RB De’Von Achane Sends Clear Message on Facing Jalen Ramsey: ‘We Know Him’

After a miserable start to the 2025 campaign, the Miami Dolphins have snuck into the AFC wild-card race with four straight wins. While it hasn’t always been pretty, the Dolphins have devised a winning formula that has seen them rely on their strengths, which are their rushing attack on offense and their pass rush on defense.

Running back De’Von Achane has played a major role in Miami’s recent offensive success, and while he is dealing with a rib injury ahead of the team’s contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he seems to be on track to suit up for this game. And should he play, he will go against one of his former teammates, Jalen Ramsey, for whom Achane had a strong message ahead of this game.

Ahead of the 2025 campaign, the Dolphins and Steelers pulled off a blockbuster trade that sent Ramsey and Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh, with Minkah Fitzpatrick reuniting with the team that initially selected him in the 2018 NFL Draft. While there wasn’t necessarily any animosity between the two sides, Ramsey did request a trade over the offseason, which led to his departure from Miami.

Now, the two sides will meet up for the first time since this trade, and Achane figures to play a big role in determining who comes out on top. With an even bigger role on offense being handed to him this season, Achane has turned in a career year, as he’s already racked up over 1,500 total yards and 11 touchdowns through 13 games of action.

While Pittsburgh’s defense is headlined by big names like Ramsey, it hasn’t been as effective as it was expected to be entering the year. With T.J. Watt also set to miss this upcoming game due to a scary lung injury, that has opened the door even more for the Dolphins. Achane knows it’s going to be a battle, though, especially with Ramsey lining up on the other side of the field.

“He was here with us. We know him, and he know us,” Achane said of Ramsey. “We know he’s gonna be out there talking. It’s gonna be fun. It’s just stuff like that you look forward to. They’re a great team. We’re gonna bring our best, and I’m pretty sure they’re gonna bring their best.”

Considering how poorly things were going for the Dolphins earlier this season, the fact that they are even in the playoff hunt is something of a miracle. Miami will likely have to win out to have a realistic shot at making the postseason, but it has been on a roll as of late, and we have certainly seen crazier things happen in the NFL.

Even though the Steelers are fresh off a major victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14, they still are vulnerable heading into this game. If the Dolphins can make Aaron Rodgers uncomfortable under center and get Achane going on offense, they will have a shot to pull off a shocking upset victory. With this game taking place on Monday Night Football, kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET.
