Dolphins Receive Tyreek Hill Update: Report

The Miami Dolphins could presume wide receiver Tyreek Hill sustained a season-ending injury on Monday night against the New York Jets.

Now, there’s zero doubt Hill will miss the rest of the season as the knee dislocation was so much more. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the extent of Hill’s injury on Tuesday morning.

In addition to dislocating his knee, Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill also tore multiple ligaments in his knee, including his ACL, per sources,” Schefter reported via X.com. “Hill remains hospitalized and will undergo surgery today.”

Hill injured his knee during a reception in the third quarter as his left leg ended up in a twisted position during a tackle. He was carted off and taken to the hospital afterward.

“My thoughts and prayers are also with Reek,” Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa told reporters after the game.

Tua Tagovailoa: ‘I Didn’t Say Anything to the Guys’

Tagovailoa had an offensive drive to finish after the injury, and he capped that drive with a 9-yard touchdown to tight end Darren Waller. The veteran quarterback said they regrouped quickly to resume play.

“I didn’t say anything to the guys,” Tagovailoa said. “I think it was one of those where collectively we knew we needed to step up in general.”

“Regardless of who is in, we feel as if it’s the next man up,” he added. “We shouldn’t lack the way we play, the style of our play, shouldn’t lack any of that. So that was sort of the mantra or the mindset going into that after Tyreek got hurt.”

Both Tagovailoa and Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel noted Hill’s good attitude amid the injury. It was quite visible at the stadium and during the prime-time broadcast.

“He was probably in the best spirits of any player that I’ve ever — it’s such a terrible experience when you go out and see guys when they have issues like that. But he immediately had wide eyes and was talking, ‘I’m good, just make sure the guys get this win.’ He was focused on the team,” McDaniel told reporters afterward.

The Dolphins did just that with a 27-21 win over the Jets. Tagovailoa, who threw two touchdown passes, noted Hill even “was kind of joking” during the injury aftermath.

“That’s just his personality,” Tagovailoa said. “So he was joking when I came up and talked to him and when a lot of the guys came up and talked to him. That’s just his personality. That’s just who he is. But our thoughts and our prayers are with him.”

Extensive Injury Was Anticipated

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, went to see him the hospital that night. Rosenhaus told WSVN 7 News on Monday that extensive damage was on the radar with the medical personnel attending to Hill.

“Are there any torn ligaments, is there torn cartilage, are there any broken bones, to check on the blood flow, any, god forbid, nerve damage?” Rosenhaus said in the late-night interview.

“Doctors have told me he dislocated his knee, which I think was apparent for everyone who watched the horrific play. But what that means, and the extent of the damage, and whether he’ll need surgery, to what extent, all of that we should find out,” he said.
