Drake Maye Sends Strong Message To MLB Free Agents About City Of Boston

Boston’s local radio station WEEI has sparked the “Drake Maye Monday” phenomenon as one of the shows hosts the New England Patriots‘ QB every Monday afternoon. Maye’s weekly interviews have sparked drama on ESPN with Cam Newton and Stephen A. Smith, but this week, he used the platform to pitch the city of Boston to MLB free agents considering signing with the Red Sox.

“The way this city and the New England area embraces sports, and professional sports players, is one of the coolest things I’ve been a part of,” Maye said. “Watching them embrace me and embrace my teammates and some of the other athletes, and how beloved some of the famous guys — [David Ortiz] and some of the greats. [Jayson] Tatum right now, [David Pastrnak] with the Bruins. It’s been really cool for me. I think it’s the greatest sports city in the country.”

Maye has been affectionately embraced by the region this season thanks to his MVP-level play on the gridiron, which has New England sitting at 11-2 through 14 weeks of the NFL season. This comes after back-to-back 4-13 finishes for the Pats.

Maye Already Drawing Comparisons To New England Greats

The one name most synonymous with the New England Patriots is obviously Tom Brady. Brady led a career with so many achievements that may never be surpassed, but in his second season, Drake Maye is actually outperforming Brady’s second season by a significant amount.

In Brady’s second season all the way back in 2002, he completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 3,764 yards, 28 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. In year two for Drake Maye (with four games remaining), he has completed a whopping 71.5 percent of his passes for 3,412 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions.

If Maye continues his streak of 200+ yard passing games, he will get well over 4,000 yards, and assuming he doesn’t throw six interceptions in his final four games, he will finish the season with fewer INT’s than Brady in year two.

Obviously this is a loose comparison; football in 2002 was far different than it is in 2025 with the rules that protect quarterbacks, and Maye plays a far more hybrid style than Brady did as a pure pocket passer.

Still, Maye is having one of the best sophomore campaigns and NFL quarterback has had in recent memory, and if this is any sign of things to come, the Patriots might have the next Tom Brady in their hands for a long time.

Patriots Set to Take On Bills With AFC East At Stake

New England will host the Buffalo Bills this weekend with the AFC East title on the line. A Patriots win clinches the division in New England’s favor for the first time since 2019, and would end Buffalo’s five-year run.

Despite being at home and riding a 10-game win streak, the Patriots are 1.5 point underdogs. Buffalo has begun to hit it’s stride, winning three of the last four games, all against tough opponents.

The Bills will come out with the intention of defending the title they’ve owned for the last half-decade. It’ll be up to the Patriots to defend home turf and prove that this isn’t a fluke season.

Kickoff at Gillette Stadium is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14.
