NBA fans were confused when Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green confronted a New Orleans Pelicans fan during Sunday’s game. Green went face to face with the fan in a tense moment that put everyone on edge. Security gave the fan a warning and allowed him to stay for the rest of the game without any more controversy coming afterwards.
More information has been revealed about the situation. Sam Green is the name of the fan, and he discussed his side of the story by confirming what he did to make Draymond upset. The story from Sam claims that he started chanting “Angel Reese” at the Warriors star to reference the controversial WNBA player from the Chicago Sky’s style of play.
Green was upset enough to confront the fan in the crowd and almost got physical. Sam also claims that Draymond said he would knock him out if the chants continued. Security separating them prevented the situation from escalating, but Green almost got himself in more trouble with the NBA if he laid a hand on a fan under any context.
Why The Fan Chanted At Draymond
The fan gave a full comment about his logic behind using the taunt of chanting Reese at the former Defensive Player of the Year. Draymond had a strong rebounding night but not attempting any shots up to that point caused the fan to come up with the creative insult.
“I wasn’t using profanity and for him to walk 12 feet off the court to come and get in my face like that, it was a little unnerving,” Sam told ESPN about the NBA player getting that close. Draymond certainly loves to talk and felt he was well within his rights to voice his opinion after being met with such heckling.
The reference to Reese stems from her WNBA play style often holding the allegation of stat hunting rebounds. Reese has even played into this by trademarking the term “mebounds” for her epic ability to compile a large number of rebounds on every given night. The fan wanted to insult Green by saying he’s looking for rebounds and unable to contribute anywhere else.
Draymond Green Had The Last Laugh
The Warriors scored a big victory over the Pelicans to continue building momentum in the Western Conference. Golden State had a strong start to the season until Stephen Curry missed time to cause a losing streak. Curry’s return has seen the team winning three in a row to improve to 9-6 so far this season.
Green finished the game with 8 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals to help with a strong team effort tonight. The offensive game of Draymond came around since he was able to finish with 8 points after a slow start. New Orleans fell to a brutal 2-11 to make that fan’s night even worse.
The viral moment ended up being the strongest memory from an otherwise lackluster game. Green has talked about taking inspiration from rude fans and had an impressive all-around game after this incident. Maybe more “Angel Reese” chants will help his play and the overall Warriors team success if tonight was any indication.
