Dylan Sampson Makes Feelings Clear on Sanders Remaining Browns QB

Dylan Sampson, the Cleveland Browns‘ rookie running back, is glad that Shedeur Sanders will remain the starting quarterback.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Sanders will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Sanders played well against the Tennessee Titans, despite the Browns losing 31-29.

After Stefanski made the decision, Sampson was asked about Sanders remaining the quarterback for the rest of the season, and he said nothing changes from the past couple of weeks.

“We still going to go out and prepare the same way we’ve been preparing with how he’s been named the starter these past two games,” Sampson said on Monday. “All we have is this week. We going to prepare how we’ve been preparing.”

As Sampson said, the Browns will continue to take it a week at a time anyway and continue to practice as they have been the past three weeks while Sanders has been the starter. So, Sanders being named the starter for the rest of the season doesn’t change anything in Sampson’s mind.

However, Sampson does believe Sanders’ chemistry with the offense has only improved and will continue to improve.

“Just him getting comfortable with the scheme,” Sampson added. “But, mainly just building the chemistry with our offense, our skill players, our offensive line. I can see that growing day in and day out in practice, and you can see it showing up in the game.”

Browns Name Sanders Starting QB

After Sanders’ four-touchdown day on Sunday, Stefanski confirmed the rookie will remain the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

Sanders has performed well, and Stefanski decided to make the permanent move on Monday.

“I think all along with our quarterbacks and young players, you are always making sure that you’re making the right decisions for our guys. He has constantly and consistently gotten better in each one of these games,” Stefanski said.

“How he’s approached these games, he’s working very hard. I feel good about where his development is heading. He knows there are always going to be plays that he can be better, but he’s very intentional about getting better each and every game.”

Sanders went 23-of-42 for 364 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception against the Titans. He also rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Sanders Not Going Against Play Call

Although Sanders had a great game on Sunday, he wasn’t on the field with the chance to tie the game.

When the Browns did their two-point attempt, Quinshon Judkins was in the wildcat as Sanders was on the sideline. Speaking after the game, Sanders admitted he wishes he had the ball in his hand, but he wasn’t going to go against the play call.

“If I’m out there any play, I would wish I would always have the ball in my hand, but that’s not what football is,” Sanders said. “Sometimes you got to run the ball, sometimes you got to kick a field goal. You know, everything like, that’s the game. That’s the most important thing, is the ball. So in any situation, of course you would want to. But I know we practiced something, and we executed it in practice, and we just didn’t seem to this day. So, I would never go against, you know, kind of like what the call was or anything.”

The Browns will go on the road to play the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
