If you want to point to the exact moment the Kansas City Chiefs dynasty ended, it came with 2:41 left in the third quarter of Super Bowl LIX.
That’s when Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts found wide receiver DeVonta Smith for a 46-yard touchdown and a 34-0 lead. It was the moment everyone in the football-loving world realized the Super Bowl was over for all intents and purposes.
“This is the exact moment where the Chiefs dynasty came to an end,” Philly Sports Sufferer wrote on its official X account. “Eagles broke that franchise.”
The Super Bowl win was revenge for the Eagles, who lost to the Chiefs just 2 years earlier in Super Bowl LVII.
Now, just 10 months after the Eagles’ 40-22 win on February 9, the Chiefs seem destined to miss the postseason entirely for the first time since 2015 following a Week 14 loss to the Houston Texans.
The loss dropped the Chiefs to 6-7 overall and dropped their chances of making the playoffs to just 15 percent, according to NFL.com.
It could also bring a dynasty to an end that’s seen the franchise play in 5 Super Bowls in the last 7 seasons, with 3 world titles. The other 2 seasons the Chiefs lost in the AFC Championship Game.
For Eagles fans, who are dealing with their own problems right now, the downfall of the Chiefs is something to celebrate in their own unique ways.
Misery for Chiefs is Utter Joy for Eagles Fans
If you think that Eagles fans being happy to see the Chiefs come apart isn’t good karma, then you really don’t understand Philadelphia sports.
The failure of rivals is the lifeblood of Philly fans. They don’t care about karma. They care about misery — ridding themselves of their own and reveling when they see someone else’s.
For Eagles fans, that’s a double dose with the Chiefs, who they blew out in the Super Bowl then double down on that with a 20-17 win at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2.
“Eagles broke the Chiefs and they haven’t recovered,” Sean Talks Eagles wrote on his official X account.
“Chiefs dynasty is over,” Eagles reporter Ed Kracz wrote on X. “Eagles ripped off their cloak of invincibility in the Super Bowl blowout.”
“There’s not too many times I’ve said the Eagles ‘broke’ a team, but the Eagles might’ve really broken the Chiefs,” Eagles fan King Kunta wrote on X.
The loss to the Texans also ended the Chiefs’ 9-year reign atop the AFC West Diviion.
“Eagles truly did pull off ‘the dagger’ to the Chiefs,” Bleacher Report’s Thomas R. Petersen wrote on his official X account. “They’ll not win their division for the first time in over a decade.”
Eagles Face Major Hurdles in Repeat Bid
Despite their recent struggles, the Eagles are still 8-4 overall and have a 2-game lead in the NFC East. With the NFC seemingly up for grabs, repeating as champions isn’t totally out of the question.
“After tonight’s game, the Eagles need to go 3-2 over their final five games to win the NFC East,” The Philly Special’s Anthony DiBona wrote on his official X account on December 4. “Philadelphia would be the first team to repeat as NFC East champions since they did it in 2004.”
