The Philadelphia Eagles looked dead in the water during the first half of Week 3’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, as they couldn’t get anything going offensively and were lost defensively against Matthew Stafford and company.
One key issue for the Eagles throughout most of the game was dealing with the absence of star offensive tackle Lane Johnson, who left the game with a neck injury and didn’t return. Obviously, when you lose a five-time All-Pro on the offensive line, the offense is going to take a huge hit, and it was costly.
Eagles Get Promising Injury Update on Lane Johnson
Although Johnson’s absence took a toll on the offense, the Eagles were able to bounce back and pull off an incredible come-from-behind win against the Rams. The team was incredibly resilient in the second half and got to watch defensive tackle Jordan Davis run back a game-winning touchdown after scooping up a blocked field goal as time was expiring in the fourth quarter.
Along with pulling out the thrilling victory over the Rams in front of the Eagles faithful in Philadelphia, the team got some good news about Johnson’s status moving forward.
According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Johnson says he expects to be back on the field for the Eagles next week when they take on Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4 on the road at Raymond James Stadium.
With Johnson being a major part of the Eagles’ success on offense, especially for stars Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, it’s a good sign he expects to play on Sept. 28.
Eagles Remind Doubters They’re Trying to Repeat

The first half against the Rams seemed to expose the Eagles while elevating the Rams as a potential Super Bowl title contender in the NFC. Philadelphia looked mediocre at best, even though Johnson’s absence was glaring and a significant part of the team’s struggles.
However, the Eagles proved to be resilient and showed why they are a legitimate threat to repeat as Super Bowl champions, as there was no quit in this team in Week 3. Along with an impressive come-from-behind win, Hurts had arguably his best performance of the season thus far, after throwing for only 101 yards last week in the Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hurts finished Sunday’s win against the Rams, throwing for 226 yards and three touchdowns on 21 completions with no interceptions. He also continues to be a threat with his legs, as he rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
Although Barkley hasn’t had an ideal start to the season, and neither has star wideout A.J. Brown, the Eagles are in a good place moving forward, especially with another tough matchup ahead on the road against the undefeated Buccaneers. Mayfield and company, much like the Eagles on Sunday, have been resilient throughout the first three games of the season and won’t back down without a fight.
