Eagles Make Surprise Trade for 11-Game Starter From AFC West

The Philadelphia Eagles and general manager Howie Roseman aren’t done wheeling and dealing this offseason.

The Eagles made a surprise trade on August 4, sending defensive lineman Thomas Booker IV to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for cornerback and 2023 fourth round pick (No. 104 overall) Jakorian Bennett.

“Trade: Raiders are sending CB Jakorian Bennett to the Eagles in exchange for DT Thomas Booker IV, per sources,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on his official X account.

Bennett started 11 games over the last 2 seasons for the Raiders, including a career high 7 games in 2024, when he had 26 tackles and a career high 8 pass deflections.

“Why does it feel like the Eagles just found another gem,” X user Michael Rodnick wrote on his official account. “Their track record has been (fire emoji).”

Booker was a fifth round pick by the Houston Texans in 2022 but was released during final roster cuts in 2023.

He spent the last 2 seasons with the Eagles; he was on the practice squad in 2023 and played all 17 games in 2024 with one start, 18 tackles, 1.0 sack and 3 TFL on the way to winning a Super Bowl.

Bennett Already Seems Like Prize in Trade

It’s not hard to see why the Raiders went after Booker, 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, after they released $110 million defensive tackle Christian Wilkins last week.

How Bennett, who wore No. 0 with the Raiders, fits in with the Eagles is a little more complicated.

On paper it already seems like Philly may have gotten the better of the trade.

“Raiders CB Jakorian Bennett‘s ranks among NFL CBs with 450+ snaps: 18 rec allowed (3rd), 37 targets (T10th). 176 yards allowed (2nd), 0 TD allowed (T1st), 9 PBU (T4th),  62.4 QBR (6th),” X user @AutumnJu wrote on May 30. “Bennett’s quietly become one of the TOP CB’s in the league, some know him as ‘JB’ but EVERYONE is gonna learn to call him AGENT ZERO or SUB ZERO.”

The Eagles currently have Quinyon Mitchell and Kelee Ringo slotted as starting outside cornerbacks, with Cooper DeJean at slot cornerback — Mitchell and DeJean were starters on last year’s Super Bowl winning defense.

“I’m someone that’s been wanting the Eagles to add another CB, not so much because I didn’t believe Ringo could win the job, but because I just didn’t like the depth there at all,” X user Chuck Maranan wrote on his official account. “We needed another body. Jakorian Bennett is that, and very possibly more. I admittedly didn’t watch much of him last year, but I know the word around the Raiders was that he was solid and promising, he just isn’t a fit anymore in that defense. Things just got very interesting!”

Ringo, Jackson Haven’t Created Separation

While the Eagles can talk all they want about how Bennett is being brought in to create depth at a key spot, the truth is probably more along the lines of Ringo and backup Adoree Jackson not doing much to separate themselves in training camp to this point.

Ringo, a fourth round pick in 2023, has only started 5 games in his first 2 seasons.

Jackson, a 2017 first round pick by the Tennessee Titans, signed a 1-year, $1.75 million contract with the Eagles in March after he started 5 games for the New York Giants in 2024.
