Eagles OC Gushes Over ‘Complete Player’ Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles may have just won Super Bowl LIX, but they aren’t resting on their laurels heading into the 2025 season. That includes their star quarterback Jalen Hurts, who won Super Bowl MVP for his efforts in their 40-22 blowout victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. And if the team’s new offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo, is to be believed, Hurts is still improving as he prepares for his sixth NFL season.

After earning the starting quarterback job in the 2021 season, Hurts has led the Eagles on their meteoric rise that has seen them make it to two of the past three Super Bowls. And yet, he may not have even reached the peak of their powers, which is a scary proposition for the rest of the league.

Jalen Hurts Still Improving for Eagles in 2025

The Eagles selected Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and after largely sitting on the bench in 2020, he earned the starting job in 2021. Since then, Hurts has turned himself into one of the best quarterbacks in the league, earning a pair of Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl championship.

Even though Hurts won a ring last season, it wasn’t his best individual season, statistically speaking. While he missed a pair of games along the way, Hurts threw for just 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns, as Philadelphia’s ground game led the way. However, he played a big role in their rushing attack, as he picked up 630 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

It culminated in Hurts leading Philadelphia to a championship, which is what every player strives to accomplish in the NFL. However, Hurts and the Eagles aren’t content with just one ring; they want more. And heading into the 2025 season, Patullo revealed that the former Oklahoma Sooners star is only getting better.

“I think Jalen [Hurts] has done a really good job of just understanding everything now,” Patullo said when speaking to reporters. “He’s becoming a really complete player in the pass game, he puts a lot of work into it. The quarterback meetings have been tremendous in terms of just understanding what the defense is doing, and what we’re trying to do, and how to attack ‘em. And, he takes a lot of pride in it.”

The prospect of Hurts getting better is something the rest of the NFL won’t be too happy about, because he just won a Super Bowl. With the rest of the Eagles roster looking strong, if Hurts can simply play at the level he was at last season, there’s reason to believe that Philadelphia could repeat as champions in 2025.

However, if Hurts gets even better, then watch out, because Philadelphia may very well be unstoppable, which is what they appeared to be during their postseason run last year. Repeating as a champion is always going to be difficult, but with Hurts leading the way, the sky appears to be the limit for the Eagles.
