Eagles Projected to Find TE Dallas Goedert Replacement

There’s still a long way to go until the 2026 NFL Draft. But a trend is growing with one NFL draft analyst — the Philadelphia Eagles selecting a tight end to replace Dallas Goedert next spring.

In an October mock draft for 2026, CBS Sports’ Mike Renner predicted the Eagles to grab Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq in the first round. Renner made the same projection Thursday.

“This is consistently one of my favorite fits in the draft for a few reasons. Dallas Goedert turns 31 years old in January and is an impending free agent,” Renner wrote. “Even if he’s re-signed, the Eagles still play a good deal of two-tight end sets.

“Sadiq is the perfect No. 2 tight end with his high-level explosiveness, YAC ability and blocking in space.”

Goedert has already set a new career high with seven receiving touchdowns this season. He also has 36 receptions for 356 yards.

But Goedert will turn 31 in January, and the Eagles reportedly considered trading him in the offseason before he agreed to a restructured contract.

Will 2025 Be Final Season With Eagles for TE Dallas Goedert?

Goedert has been an important part of the Eagles offense again this season. But with his age, it wouldn’t be shocking if Philadelphia chose to move on.

Whether that becomes the team’s preference could come down to money. Goedert is on a $10 million contract this season.

While Goedert has more touchdowns in nine games than he had in the past two seasons combined, he’s showing signs of slowing down. The tight end is averaging a career-low 9.9 yards per reception. His receiving yards per game and yards per target are as low as they’ve been in years too.

The Eagles drafted Goedert at No. 49 overall in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He’s posted three seasons with more than 600 receiving yards. Goedert has also registered a 592 receiving yards season in his career.

Prior to this season, his career high was five touchdowns.

In 102 NFL games, Goedert has recorded 385 catches, 4,441 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns. The Eagles will have to address tight end in some fashion if Goedert doesn’t return for 2026.

Could Eagles Target Oregon TE Kenyon Sadiq?

Philadelphia doesn’t have to target a tight end in the first round if Goedert leaves. But selecting a tight end at some point in 2026 would make sense.

Signing a tight end immediately in free agency could rule out any possibility of Goedert returning. If the Eagles would prefer Goedert come back, they could wait for the draft, perhaps select his eventual replacement and still have an opening for the veteran.

Whether the Eagles choose the first round as the best time to address tight end could depend on the rest of the 2025 season. If Philadelphia continues to be a Super Bowl candidate by excelling at multiple position groups, tight end could be the team’s biggest need next spring.

That could always change, though, based on lots of factors over the next two months.

At Oregon, Sadiq has posted 30 catches, 407 receiving yards and six touchdowns this season. In 37 career college games, he has registered 59 catches, 739 receiving yards and nine scores.
