The Philadelphia Eagles are turning to a familiar face to add depth at safety.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Eagles agreed to terms with safety Marcus Epps, reuniting with the veteran who spent three seasons in Philadelphia, including as part of the defense that fueled a run to the Super Bowl in 2022.
Epps, 29, spent the past two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he posted 85 total tackles before signing with the New England Patriots this offseason and ultimately being released during final roster cuts earlier this week.
Working his way back from a torn ACL, Epps should compete for snaps with Sydney Brown and Andrew Mukuba while providing added insurance if either of the Eagles’ starting safeties go down due to an injury this season.
Through his first six seasons since being chosen in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, Epps has produced 294 total tackles with three interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
According to general manager Howie Roseman, the Eagles’ roster very much is a work in progress.
âIâll say this,â Roseman told reporters Tuesday, shortly after the league-mandated deadline to get down to 53 players. âWe arenât done here … If we need something, Iâll do whatever I can for this football team, to be aggressive. [owner] Jeffrey [Lurie] gives me that opportunity to do that. I donât think that weâre done. This is a work in progress.â
