However, the match was far from a classic with only 11 shots throughout the game.

Serbia outshot England with six shots to five, but it was the English who picked up the three points.

This is the lowest number of shots in a match at the Euros since 1980, according to Opta.

Fans all had the same thing to say after spotting the embarrassing stat.

One posted: “Boring.”

A second wrote: “Very very boring.”

A third commented: “Trademark Southgate.”

A fourth said: “England has become one of the most boring sides in Europe. Playing like the Italy of the past, minus the trophies.”

However, some were keen to point out that the result is the most important thing.

One shared: “Who cares? We won the game. I’ll take 1-0 wins until the tournament ends instead of being ‘pleasing on the eye’.”

A second added: “Job done. On to the next one.”

England earned the win after Bellingham’s brilliant header in the first half.

The Real Madrid star latched on to a deflected cross by Bukayo Saka.

Gareth Southgate‘s side almost made it 2-0 in the second half as substitute Jarrod Bowen crossed into Harry Kane.

The striker got his head on the ball and sent it goalwards, but Predrag Rajkovic pulled off a great save to keep the margin to one.

How England rated vs Serbia… as Bellingham shines but TWO big names get 5s

JUDE BELLINGHAM was England’s head boy as Gareth Southgate’s side made a winning start in Germany.

The Real Madrid superstar oozed class throughout and broke the deadlock with only 13 minutes played thanks to an excellent header, dispatching Bukayo Saka’s deflected cross.

But, despite the brilliant start, it was a nervy affair here in Gelsenkirchen.

Serbia exerted significant pressure in the second half, with a few narrow escapes for Southgate’s men.

Harry Kane barely had a kick and the Premier League’s player of the year Phil Foden struggled to have any influence on the left of the Three Lions’ front three.

Here’s how SunSport’s Tom Barclay rated England’s stars… with TWO stars getting just a 5.
