Entire Jets TE Room Is Getting Extra Offseason Work at Tight End University

The majority of the New York Jets’ tight end room is getting some extra work ahead of training camp.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed on social media that four of the Jets’ five tight ends will be attending Tight End University this year.

Rookie Mason Taylor, Jeremy Ruckert, Stone Smartt, and Zack Kuntz will all be in attendance, the TEU website confirmed.

The only Jets tight end who won’t be in attendance is Neal Johnson.

TEU Explained, Could Be Massive Benefit for Jets TE Room

According to the TEU website, this event is an “immersive three-day program.”

“Founded in 2021 by NFL Tight Ends George Kittle, Travis Kelce, and Greg Olsen, Tight End University was created to bring the Tight End community together,” the site explained. “Over the course of the summit, attendees are able to bond, collaborate with, and learn amongst their peers while participating in a variety of activities, including film study, on-field drills, recovery, rehabilitation, and more.”

TEU’s official Instagram account officially introduced the class of 2025, which included 72 participants this year.

In addition to the group of current NFL tight ends, Tight End University will also feature “several retired legends who provide attendees with the invaluable opportunity to learn from some of the best to ever play the game.”

This three-day event helps superstars and borderline roster players alike. However, beyond the football activities that occur, TEU works with the community to help out with several charitable endeavors.

“Thanks to the help of our sponsors, we are able to help raise money for various organizations, and at the conclusion of the event, donate all proceeds to charities selected by our hosts,” TEU posted on their website.

Every Single Jets TE Could Use Extra Work Ahead of 2025

Taylor is an impressionable youngster who has high expectations as a second-rounder from April’s draft. Being around some of the best TEs in the NFL and from all-time can only help.

The rest of the Jets group is a bunch of unproven dart throws that have a chance to make some noise.

Ruckert hasn’t found his stride yet, but the coaching staff feels confident that they can unlock him. Head coach Aaron Glenn said he feels like Ruckert has a lot of “meat left on the bone.”

Smartt is a late conversion to tight end. He has a lot of potential, but it has only been shown in flashes at the NFL level.

“A former quarterback for Northern Arizona, Riverside City, and Old Dominion, Smartt converted to tight end in his fifth college season. He went undrafted after catching 17 passes in eight games, but he caught on with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he gradually improved across three seasons,” Joe Blewett of Jets X-Factor wrote.

“Across three seasons in Los Angeles, Smartt improved his reception and receiving yardage totals each year. He posted career-highs of 16 receptions and 208 yards in 2024, doing it with just 19 targets. Smartt averaged 10.9 yards per target and produced a first down on 58% of his targets,” Blewett added.

The final Jets tight end in attendance is Zack Kuntz. He is a prospect chiseled from stone who looks like he was built on a lab table. Kuntz is raw and needs refining; this three-day camp could help give him some momentum heading into camp.
