ESPN Announces ‘College Gameday’ Guest Picker for Oklahoma vs. Michigan

Lee Corso is no longer with “College Gameday,” but the guest picker segment is continuing.

ESPN’s weekly college football pregame show is traveling to Norman, Oklahoma, on Saturday for the matchup between the Sooners and Michigan Wolverines.

ESPN tapped notable Sooner alumni for the event — Atlanta Hawks star point guard Trae Young.

Trae Young, a Former Oklahoma Star, is Pumped to be Guest Picker

“I’m excited to welcome y’all to my hometown, my home city of Norman, Oklahoma,” Young said in a post to X.

Young, who played one season for the Sooners in 2017-2018, will be the first guest picker since Corso retired from his iconic role on the show.

“Just a week after Lee Corso decided to hang it up, we got that team from up north coming down here, and I’m not worried at all,” Young said. “I’m ready to set the tone. I know Sooner fans are ready to set the tone. So we know what we’ve got to do. Boomer f–king Sooner.”

While in college, Young earned consensus All-American honors and was named Big 12 Rookie of the Year. In his lone year of college basketball, he dominated with averages of 27.4 points, 8.7 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game, carrying Oklahoma to the NCAA tournament.

Young was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks with the No. 5 pick and traded to Atlanta during the draft. He’s been named an All-Star four times and made third-team All-NBA in 2022.

Michigan and Oklahoma Meet for the First Time Since 1976

After the Week 1 college football schedule was packed with marquee matchups, Week 2 offers a lighter slate — but the clash between the Wolverines and Sooners remains a clear highlight.

This matchup isn’t just about two tradition-rich programs — it’s also another SEC vs. Big Ten showdown. Long regarded as the gold standard in college football, the SEC has recently been challenged by the Big Ten, which has claimed the last two national titles and gone 3-0 in head-to-head battles during the past two College Football Playoffs.

The Big Ten added to its recent surge last season with a 3-1 record in non-CFP bowl games, then carried that momentum into 2025 when Ohio State took down Texas in Week 1’s marquee matchup. If Michigan — fresh off a five-loss campaign — can walk into Oklahoma and come away with a road win, the SEC will be left digging into the past for bragging rights.

The game marks only the second-ever meeting between the Wolverines and Sooners — and their first clash since 1976 between the two storied programs. Both teams enter the game at 1-0. Michigan comes in ranked No. 15 while Oklahoma is ranked No. 18.

Both teams remain somewhat of an enigma after Week 1 wins over overmatched opponents that still exposed a few flaws. Of course, no team is a finished product this early, but each has College Football Playoff ambitions that would gain real traction with a Week 2 victory.
