Belgium and Everton footballer Amadou Onana brutally shut down a reporter who mistook him for Manchester United star Andre Onana.
In footage that emerged on social media on Tuesday, Onana was speaking to journalists in the mixed zone after Belgium’s shock defeat to Slovakia in their Euro 2024 opener on Monday.
After finishing answering one question the midfielder turned to the next reporter, only for another down the line to try and catch his attention by calling out ‘Andre’ – the name of United’s Cameroonian goalkeeper.
Onana quickly turned to face him and snapped: ‘Andre’s not even my name mate. Do you know what a mean?’
He then politely went back to the previous reporter and continued the interviews.
The 22-year-old wasn’t the only Belgian to get annoyed in the mixed zone after captain Kevin De Bruyne stormed out of an interview post-match.
Despite the defeat to Slovakia, Onana put in a good performance and thought he had set up an equaliser only for VAR to rule out Romelu Lukaku’s tap-in for offside.
The midfielder’s performances for Everton have earned admirers, with Arsenal very interested in acquiring his services this summer.
And Onana even previously admitted he was hoping to use Euro 2024 as a platform to impress potential buyers.
‘At previous tournaments, you have seen that the players who did well make the step up to the top clubs. That’s something I strive for,’ the Toffees star said.
‘I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.’
He’ll hope to get Belgium back on track when they play Romania on Saturday.
