Ex-Bills $100 Million Playmaker Urged To Sign With The Pittsburgh Steelers

Last season, the Buffalo Bills made an interesting trade before the deadline, sending a 2025 third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Cooper appeared in eight games for the Bills, recording 297 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The Bills probably thought they would get a little more production from Cooper when they traded for him last October, and the lack of big-time plays from the 31-year-old receiver is likely the reason why he isn’t signed as of July 2nd.

There is no reunion in place for Cooper and the Bills after the team went out this offseason and signed two free-agent receivers, Josh Palmer and Elijah Moore.

With NFL training camps starting up all around the league this month, teams will be able to see what they need heading into the season.

Amari Cooper Could End Up With The Steelers

One position many teams could target is adding a receiver, and Cody Benjamin from CBS Sports thinks Cooper could end up with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“At this point, it just feels irresponsible not to include the Steelers on any list of potential skill-weapon suitors. Yes, they just added Jonnu Smith as a quasi-wideout for Aaron Rodgers,” Benjamin wrote. “Yes, they traded for DK Metcalf earlier this offseason. But their perimeter depth is still pretty lacking thanks to George Pickens’ move to the Cowboys, with replacement-level reserves like Robert Woods and Scotty Miller in line for backup duties. Both Keenan Allen and Cooper are precisely the kind of crisp route-runners that Rodgers would surely endorse, and it’s not like their entry would threaten too many of Metcalf’s opportunities as the bona fide No. 1.”

Cooper would make a lot of sense for the Steelers after the team traded away Pickens in early May.

The Steelers are in win-now mode, with their quarterback, Rodgers, turning 42 this season. He has made it clear that this will most likely be his last season.

The Bills Could Meet Pittsburgh In The Playoffs

If Pittsburgh wants to ensure it makes the playoffs and can finally win a game, then adding a veteran player like Cooper would be the best move.

There is a chance Cooper knows a team or two he wants to sign with, but is waiting until training camp is over so he doesn’t have to go through the hard work of the NFL offseason.

Many NFL veterans who are playing in their final seasons will wait to sign with a team after training camp, so they don’t have to go through the demanding practices. So, Cooper could just be waiting around.

If Cooper heads to the Steelers, he could face the Bills in the playoffs this season, which could come back to hurt Buffalo if Cooper has a big game.

It will be interesting to see which team Cooper ends up with this season, and there’s a great chance that it will be a Super Bowl contender.
