Stefon Diggs made waves during his tenure with the Buffalo Bills with a series of statements and cryptic social media posts hinting at his discontent with the team, but has struck a very different tone with the New England Patriots.
The former All-Pro wide receiver issued an apology this summer after a reporter said he was âbecoming a bit of a pain in the posterior,” saying it was not his intention to rub anyone the wrong way. Diggs made another statement amid the team’s struggling start, telling reporters that he has no issues with a lack of targets and just wants to do whatever it takes for the team to win.
Stefon Diggs Happy to Help in New England
Diggs has made a moderate impact this season, catching 13 of his 15 targets for 115 yards through the first three games of the season. He has only played in 53.5% of the team’s snaps, however, leading Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald to question whether his season-ending knee injury from last year is fully healed yet.
Diggs pushed aside any speculation that he’s unhappy with the lack of playing time or production, however, saying he is only focused on what he can do for the team.
âComparison is the thief of joy. I canât really think about whatâs going on around me,â Diggs said. âIâll be cheering for my guys. Always clap for everybody around me, even if itâs not for me. I pretty much always been that way. Even if you do want more, whateverâs on your plate, you got to eat it.
âBut I never want to fall into the trap of focusing on something else and not eating the food in front of me. Youâre not worried about whatâs in front of you and focusing on things outside of football. I just try to focus on the things thatâs right in front of me. I want to make sure I scrape the plate, though, I promise you. Iâm gonna leave no crumbs.â
Diggs, who was traded by the Bills last year after months of rising tensions, said he will continue to take that approach.
âIâm here for whatever they need. Iâve been doing this for a long time. Iâm a veteran,â Diggs said. âIâm healthy â shout out to God. But itâs whatever they need me to do.”
Two Former Bills Receivers Producing for the Patriots
While the Patriots have struggled on offense while falling to a 1-2 start, Diggs and fellow Buffalo Bills wide receiver Mack Hollins have made some important contributions. Hollins led the Bills last season with seven touchdowns and has one already this season, making six catches for 38 yards with a score.
The Bills and Patriots meet on October 5 for what will be Diggs’ first return to Buffalo since being traded to the Houston Texans. The teams did face off last year, with the Texans beating the Bills in Houston. Diggs led his team with six catches for 82 yards while the Bills struggled on offense, with quarterback Josh Allen completing 9-of-30 passes for 131 yards with one touchdown.
