Ex-Clippers Guard’s Lawyer Challenges Affidavit

The attorney for former Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley is challenging the disturbing details in a Texas affidavit accusing the veteran guard of choking and striking his younger sister, saying the claims are “not accurate” and urging the public not to rush to judgment.

In a new statement sent to Heavy Sports, attorney Letitia Quinones-Hollins defended Beverley’s character and disputed the violent allegations included in the police report.

“I understand that the affidavit contains some negative details; however, remember that it is only one side of the story — given at a time when emotions were high,” Quinones-Hollins said. “We don’t believe that the description in that affidavit is accurate, nor is it complete.”

Patrick Beverley ‘Is Not a Violent Man’

GettyFormer Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley denies the disturbing accusation against him.

Beverley, 37, was arrested last week in Fort Bend County, Texas, and charged with third-degree felony assault involving impeding breath, a charge that can carry up to 10 years in prison.

Quinones-Hollins rejected the idea that Beverley is violent or acted aggressively that night.

“Patrick is not a violent man and was not violent that night,” she said. “In fact, he was very respectful with the authorities that night and encouraged others to do the same.”

The attorney added that Beverley has long served as the family’s protector.

“He is the provider and protector of his family, including his little sister and his mom,” she stated. “He has always looked out for their well-being and will continue to do so.”

Defense Questions Affidavit: ‘Only One Side’

The affidavit, obtained by TMZ Sports, alleges Beverley choked his sister with both hands, lifted her off the ground, dragged her by the neck, slammed her into walls and struck her in the eye. Police said they observed marks on her neck and petechiae — burst blood vessels — in her eyes.

Quinones-Hollins argued that the affidavit came at a moment of emotional escalation and does not represent what actually happened.

“It is only one side of the story,” she said. “We don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described.”

She said the defense is confident the evidence will clear him.

“I have every expectation that when all the facts are in, Patrick will be cleared of these charges,” Quinones-Hollins said. “Until then, I can only ask that everyone keep an open mind and not rush to judgment.”

‘Innocent Unless Proven Otherwise,’ Attorney Reminds Public

Beverley was released on $40,000 bail and has not issued further public comment beyond two brief posts on X. His attorney emphasized the legal presumption of innocence.

“Please remember this is America and in our society, Patrick is innocent unless proven otherwise in a court of law,” her statement read.

Beverley’s Run With Clippers

Beverley spent four seasons (2017–2021) with the Clippers, where he became a cornerstone of the franchise’s culture shift under head coach Doc Rivers and later Tyronn Lue.

With the Clippers, he averaged 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and provided elite perimeter pressure, earning All-Defensive honors in 2020. He also helped lead the Clippers to multiple playoff runs, including the franchise’s first-ever trip to the Western Conference Finals (2021).
