Ex-Giant Questions Brian Daboll Firing, Compares Jaxson Dart to MVP QB

The New York Giants have had a roller coaster season in 2025.

It’s been filled with ups and downs, highs and lows, and a whole lot of losing.

The emergence of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has been a big one, with New York seemingly finding their first franchise quarterback since the legendary Eli Manning.

But injuries, poor talent, and coaching around the Ole Miss product have left him to carry the load by himself.

Head coach Brian Daboll was fired midseason after his third consecutive 2-8 start, despite the positive development of Dart.

And one former Giants player believes the hook may have come too soon for the 2022 NFL Coach of the Year.

Kyle Rudolph Believes Giants Fired Brian Daboll Too Soon

Former New York Giants tight end Kyle Rudolph sat down for an exclusive interview with RG’s DJ Siddiqi for an exclusive interview, and gave his thoughts on the current state of the franchise.

As for the firing of Daboll, Rudolph thinks the Giants brass may have been hasty in their decision to part ways with their head coach.

“The quarterback has shown a lot of promise. You look at what he did with Josh Allen and Buffalo, you look at the similarities between Jaxson Dart and Josh Allen,” Rudolph told Siddiqi.

“They’re firing the head coach, but the GM is staying. I don’t know. I feel like if you’re Daboll, I just got my quarterback, we take the kid, the young kid in the first round. He shows ultimate promise that they’re a young team that needs to figure out how to win games.”

While Daboll’s positive progress with Dart is something that can’t be argued, the reason for canning the coach likely boils down to the Giants’ propensity to blow leads this season.

In their first 10 games, New York blew four 10-point leads, leading to losses against the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos, and Chicago Bears.

But Rudolph says that’s just the growing pains of a young team, and not necessarily a reflection of the head coach.

“They’re fourth quarters away from having four wins as opposed to four losses. I feel like that’s just something throughout the course of the maturity and development of a team, you start to establish a culture and instill these discipline and values that as your young team gets older, you learn how to win those close games instead of losing them.”

Jaxson Dart Receives Josh Allen Comparisons

Dart is going to miss the New York Giants’ Week 11 matchup against the Green Bay Packers with a concussion, but despite the absence, the optimism about the future of the position persists.

Rudolph believes Dart is the Giants’ guy for the next decade-plus, and compared him to Buffalo Bills MVP quarterback Josh Allen.

“He reminds me of Josh Allen. He has the ability with his legs. I think he’s had a rushing touchdown in his first four games as a starter. He’s a quarterback that has incredible arm talent, but also can make plays with his legs,” Rudolph continued to Siddiqi.

“I think that’s something that we saw Josh Allen do early in his career in Buffalo and we’re continuing to see it now.”

Even without a surefire head coach in place in New York, the Giants’ future is bright thanks to the 25th overall pick in last April’s draft.
