Ex-NFL QB Urges Jets to Pursue QB Joe Burrow After ‘Alarming Words’

The New York Jets have more tradeable assets than any team in the NFL. That means if any surprising situations present themselves, the Jets can strike.

Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky believes that has taken place with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

“Obviously, there are a lot of similarities here to Andrew Luck. It would shock me if three teams weren’t on the phone today after what he said yesterday, figuring out how to make him part of our football team now, three months from now, six months from now, a year from now. He is obviously in a bad place with that organization. It’s not surprising,” Orlovsky explained on “UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio.”

The three teams that Orlovsky mentioned were the Jets, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, who should be in the mix.

“Those would be the three. If I were those three organizations, I’m in a brainstorm meeting now. We are figuring out a way to propose a way to get Joe Burrow. I don’t necessarily care what it takes,” Orlovsky added.

ESPN NFL Insider Calls Burrow’s Comments ‘Alarming’

This week, Burrow had a “reflective — and at times a bit dark” press conference this week talking about his football future, according to NFL Insider Ari Meirov.

“If I want to keep doing this, I have to have fun doing it. I have been through a lot. If it’s not fun, then what am I doing it for? … There’s just a lot of things going on right now,” Burrow told the media via Meirov.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reacted to Burrow’s comments on his podcast and called them “alarming words.”

“I thought the most intriguing comments I heard from anybody were Joe Burrow on Wednesday in Cincinnati, talking about the fun he is having or not having — and his future there basically. I can tell you this: other teams in the league took notice of that. I can tell you that for a fact. I know that because I was texting with some of them,” Schefter revealed on “The Adam Schefter Podcast.”

“Andrew Luck, when he retired, had played 86 NFL games and had been sacked 174 times. Joe Burrow has played 13 fewer games, 73, and had been sacked 203 times. So he has played 13 fewer games and has been sacked 29 more times than Andrew Luck was,” Schefter said on his podcast.

“Those were alarming words. Those were ALARMING WORDS! That got the attention of a lot of people. I can tell you that right now, and that’ll be something to pay attention to,” Schefter added.

The World Is the Jets’ Oyster

When you are armed with five first-round picks and three second-round picks over the next two years, you call the shots.

If the Jets fall in love with a young quarterback in the draft, they can trade up for him. If a star passer hits free agency, the Jets can pay them. Or even if a disgruntled veteran QB becomes open for business, the Jets can enter that conversation, too.

The green and white hold all of the cards. What the brass needs to decide is which direction they want to go because the next two years will determine how the next decade transpires for the Jets. No pressure.
