Ex-Pro Bowl OL Taylor Lewan Gives Brutally Honest Take on Jets Trades: EXCLUSIVE

Former three-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman Taylor Lewan sat down with me for an exclusive 1-on-1 conversation thanks to Gillette.

Lewan reacted to the blockbuster New York Jets trades that stunned the NFL.

“It’s interesting, if you’re making this big of a trade, you guys are saying Aaron Glenn is our guy, and we want our culture to be established by this man. So there are two trains of thought when I look at Sauce [Gardner] and Quinnen Williams leaving that area because they have been big pillars for you guys. Either those guys don’t fit the culture that Aaron Glenn wants, and so he is going to move them away and get draft capital. Or they just think to themselves, let’s wipe the slate clean, have a blank canvas, and allow Aaron Glenn to do what Dan Campbell did. Bring in his guys, his culture, and work through the draft and free agency,” Lewan explained to me on “Boy Green Daily.”

Each November, men everywhere grow out their mustaches in support of Movember, the world’s largest nonprofit dedicated to men’s health. For the second year, Gillette is teaming up with Movember as the official grooming partner to raise awareness and funds for one of the most pressing men’s health issues – prostate cancer.

Every GilletteLabs razor purchased in November creates a $1 donation** to Movember. The funds fuel the fight against prostate cancer and make every shave count.  Visit pgbrandsaver.com/Movember for details. Exclusions apply.

Player’s Perspective on Getting Traded

All fans see is a player trading a green uniform for a blue one. There is some shock when it comes across the social media timeline, but then fans move on to the next thing that is going on.

For players, that isn’t so simple.

They have to move to a new city, find a new home, move their families, take their kids out of school, bring their kids to a new school, and oh yeah, fit a brand new scheme with new coaches and teammates.

Lewan never got traded in the NFL. He spent the entirety of his nine-year career with the Tennessee Titans.

“Right, you are correct, I never had to deal with that. It was always something that came up around this time of year. Like I knew for the most part that I was always safe. I had a great relationship with Jon Robinson toward the time I probably could have gotten traded. I would ask him sometimes, ‘Hey man, have you gotten any calls about me? Have you heard anything?’ He was like, ‘We get calls about everybody.’ Then he would just stare off into the distance. I was like damn, I could go at any moment,” Lewan reminisced with a laugh.

“The biggest thing for me was draft night, I believe it was 2018 or 2019, when A.J. Brown was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. That was one for me that totally took me by surprise. Titans made a big mistake trying to get rid of a guy that was already proven in the league, a top receiver, then drafting a guy and saying he will be the same thing. Spoiler alert: that doesn’t usually work,” Lewan bluntly stated.

“For me, if I were traded from the Tennessee Titans when I was playing, I would have been heartbroken. I established relationships, I established a family, and was part of a team that won five games for the first two years, and then, at least in my opinion, was a big piece of why we were having so much success. I was proud of what we were able to build and to be a part of that. So I would have been really hurt by the situation,” Lewan said.

Gillette is teaming up with Movember to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer. Movember emphasizes that early detection is key and encourages men to have conversations about their health.

A Special Partnership for a Great Cause

“With ‘Bussin’ With The Boys’, it has been incredible to see people really take on the show, love the show, and watch it. It has really allowed us to be kind of picky and choosy with the partners that we decide to partner up with. When Gillette came and called and said they’re doing this thing with Movember, would you guys be interested in doing it? Oh, absolutely, because you see this little ferret that I have on the top of my lip [pointing to his mustache]. This has been a hope and dream of mine since I was eight years old. I used to have a little mustache pen on my finger. Now it’s a tattoo that I got when I was 17. It was easy for me because Gillette is already what I use. Gillette Lab Razors, I put those boys on, I use the shaving cream, and I use all the stuff,” Lewan explained.

Gillette makes it easier than ever to support Movember this year. From shaving down to mustache management, shaving with GilletteLabs means you’re getting Gillette’s best shave* while you grow your ‘stache to raise awareness.  Shave like it matters with Gillette. The best your shave can give.

Interesting Survey Results

Mustaches are showing up everywhere — pro athletes, musicians, actors, and TikTok “mustache transformation” videos with millions of views.

To understand men’s take on the look, Gillette surveyed 1,000 Americans. The results? Two-thirds of men (66%) say they’re likely to grow a mustache in the future.

Here are some of the key findings from the survey:

68% of Americans associate mustaches with country music, far more than any other genre of music.

More than a third of respondents associate mustaches with Nashville, and that number climbs to 45% among men in the city.

Two-thirds (68%) of Americans believe that mustaches are trendy right now.

As a fellow mustache/bearded enthusiast since I was in fifth grade, I share my stamp of approval.

More than half (56%) of Americans agree that most men look great with a mustache.

More than three-quarters of men (76%) say they currently have or have had a mustache.
