The attorney for former Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley is disputing the violent claims in a Texas arrest affidavit that alleges the NBA veteran choked and struck his younger sister, calling the document ânot accurateâ and âonly one side of the story.â
Beverley, 37, was arrested in Fort Bend County on a third-degree felony family assault charge involving impeding breath and circulation â a legal term tied to choking or strangulation, according to state records.
In a new statement sent to Heavy.com, prominent Houston defense attorney Letitia Quinones-Hollins said the accusations have been mischaracterized and urged the public not to rush to judgment.
âI understand that the affidavit contains some negative details; however, remember that it is only one side of the story â given at a time when emotions were high,â Quinones-Hollins said.
âWe donât believe that the description in that affidavit is accurate, nor is it complete.â

âPatrick is not a violent man and was not violent that night,â the statement said.
âIn fact, he was very respectful with the authorities that night and encouraged others to do the same.â
