Former Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley, one of the franchiseâs most iconic defensive sparks of the James Harden era, spoke publicly for the first time after being arrested in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge.
Shortly after posting a $40,000 bail, Beverley shared a message on X (formerly Twitter), urging fans not to believe early reports circulating online.
âPlease donât believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luvâ¤ï¸ðð¾,â Beverley wrote, addressing the viral headlines surrounding the case.
TMZ Sports reported that Beverley was accused of assaulting a family or household member, with allegations involving impeding breath or circulation, a serious charge under Texas law.
Beverley Acted Out of Concern for His Sister
In a subsequent X post, Beverley released a detailed statement defending himself and disputing the early characterization of the incident.
âPatrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister â a young lady, a minor,â the statement read.
The statement claims Beverley arrived home to discover his underage sister alone with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night.
âHe was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister,â the statement continued.
âHowever, we donât believe what followed happened the way itâs been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.â
Beverleyâs camp expects to challenge the charges aggressively once the case reaches the courtroom.
Beverley Still Remembered Fondly in Houston for Grit and Defense
Beverley is best known to the Rockets fans for his successful four-season run from 2013 to 2017, where he became a cornerstone of the franchiseâs defense alongside Trevor Ariza and Dwight Howard.
His relentless energy, toughness and willingness to guard elite scorers made him a cult hero in Houston, earning him NBA All-Defensive honors in 2017. He started alongside Harden, helping Houston reach the Western Conference Finals in 2015.
The guard averaged 9.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals during his Houston career before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the blockbuster Chris Paul deal.
He was also at the center of several memorable playoff battles, including clashes with the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder.
After leaving Houston, Beverley played for the Clippers, Timberwolves, Bulls, Sixers, Lakers, and Bucks, maintaining his reputation as one of the NBAâs toughest defenders.
Legal Case Adds to Ongoing Turbulence After NBA Controversies
This arrest comes after a turbulent period for Beverley. He still has an unserved four-game NBA suspension stemming from a playoff heated altercation with Indiana Pacers fans last season, where he threw a basketball into the crowd.
Additionally, he faces a civil lawsuit from fans involved in that incident.
With his latest legal case now unfolding in Texas, the 37-year-old guardâs NBA future remains uncertain.
Whatâs Next for the Former Rockets Guard?
A court date has not yet been made public, and Beverleyâs camp insists the truth will come out once proceedings begin.
Meanwhile, Rockets fansâwho still hold Beverley in high regard for his grit, leadership, and identity-shaping defenseâwill be watching closely as more details emerge.
