Ex-Texans QB Deshaun Watson Sends Message After Getting Bad News

Former Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson received an ominous update this week, directly from Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski during a press conference. The three-time Pro Bowler sent a short message after receiving even more unfortunate news.

Watson is currently on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list after re-tearing his Achilles tendon in January.

He has documented his work to return to the field, but he has taken a major blow in that regard.

Browns Hold Off on Key Decision About Former Texans QB Deshaun Watson

Watson, the No. 12 overall pick by the Texans in 2017, took to Instagram on Tuesday evening, and, like he has in the past, many of the images shared were of the veteran QB working out at the Browns’ facilities.

However, Watson also posted “Be READY! MoreGLORY. [spade emoji] along with the series of images.

The post comes on a new report that he will have to wait “at least” one more week to return.

“Deshaun Watson continues to make excellent progress in his comeback from a re-ruptured Achilles, but the Browns aren’t opening his 21-day practice window this week,” Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot wrote on November 11. “But the Browns will wait at least until at least Week 12 against the Raiders to designate Watson for return from reserve/Physically Unable to Perform. They expect to have more clarity on his timeframe over the next couple of weeks.

“The Browns must be judicious on when they open the practice window, because they’ll have to activate him to the 53-man roster during that three-week span or he reverts to reserve/PUP for the remainder of the season.”

Cabot expressed similar sentiments about the Browns’ plans for Watson’s timeline on the heels of Stefanski also seemingly suggesting waiting was their plan.

“I’m not sure if [activating Watson is] what we’re doing,” Stefanski said on November 10.

Watson also posted some of the images and messages to his Instagram story, including one that read “consistency looks like nothing is happening. Until everything changes.”

Another cited Romans 8:28.

“God’s plan for you is always the best. Sometimes the process is painful and hard,” the passage posted read. “But don’t forget that, when God is silent, He’s doing something for you. Trust the process.”

Watson captioned the final slide in his stories, an image of him walking across the Browns’ practice field he was working out on, with “had to walk a lot of miles to get here.”

The Texans traded Watson to the Browns in 2022.

Cleveland proceeded to sign the embattled passer to a five-year, $230 million contract, fully guaranteeing the deal and locking them into their current plight as injuries set in. He has played in 19 games, posting a 9-10 record.

Former Browns Exec Gets Honest About Deshaun Watson Trade

Former Browns chief strategy officer Paul Depodesta, now an executive for the Colorado Rockies, drew attention over his response to questions about acquiring Watson from the Texans.

Depodesta said that, “especially” with major decisions, the final call is “organizational.”

“I’m not a believer in the ‘King Scout’ situation where there is one guy who makes every call,” Depodesta told reporters during his introductory press conference, per The Denver Post’s Patrick Saunders on November 10

“The jobs are too complex, the decisions are too hard. They impact too many different things. So I always think these sort of collective decisions, it can be hard to get unanimous (opinions) on those types of things.  Everyone who was a part of that? We all own that. We just do, that’s part of the deal.”

Texans general manager Nick Caserio has drawn praise for how Houston fared, landing several key pieces of the current core and successfully replacing Watson with C.J. Stroud.
