Expert Predicts Patriots Upset Bills, ‘Drake Maye Will Outduel Josh Allen’

The New England Patriots escaped the first month of the season firmly in the mix among the NFL standings. After a dominative Week 4 win, the Pats will go on the road in an attempt to snap the Buffalo Bills 14-game home winning streak.

The Bills are one of just two undefeated teams left, and they are more than one touchdown favorites to keep their ship rolling. But not so fast, my friend. The line opened at 10.5 and has been bet all the way down to eight.

Now, CBS Sports’ expert Garrett Podell says that the Pats are primed and ready to pull off the upset.

New England Patriots second-year Pro Bowl quarterback Drake Maye will outduel 2024 NFL MVP Josh Allen in his own house to lead the Patriots to a jaw-dropping victory as 8.5-point road underdogs,” Podell writes.

“New England is both the NFL’s 10th-ranked scoring offense (25.5 points per game) and 10th-ranked scoring defense (20.3 points per game allowed): they’re a legitimately good football team out to a 2-2 start.”

Podell cites Drake Maye’s Tom Brady-like completion percentage. Noting that his 74% mark is the second best in Patriots history since Tom Brady completed nearly 80% of his passes in the first month of the legendary 2007 season.

But more than anything, Podell (like myself) is unimpressed with Buffalo sleep walking to four wins.

Buffalo played with its food in Week 4 in a 31-19 win over the winless New Orleans Saints, leading by just two points (21-19) midway through the fourth quarter,” Podell concludes. The Bills allowed the Saints to run for a season-high 189 yards rushing on 5.6 yards per carry. That level of play will get them beat by Maye and Co. in Week 5.”

Patriots Becoming Most Bet Underdogs To Win

It seems like the public is beginning to side with the scrappy under dogs in New England. Yahoo Sports senior betting analyst Ben Fawkes sat down with bookmakers in Las Vegas to talk about where the money is coming in.

Fawkes found out that an overwhelming amount of action is coming in on the New England Patriots. They are the fifth most-bet underdog to win outright. They are the third most bet spread period, with many believing they will cover the eight points.

Additionally, the “sharp action”, which is early money that comes in from professional bettors, is also siding with the Pats.

For a spread that opened at 10 points, this game moved quickly down to Bills -8 and has since sat in this region,” said Ethan Useloff, Fanatics Sportsbook trader. “Buffalo is seeing an influx of money on its ML and to cover this spread, but moving toward New England is a result of their strong showing against Carolina. However, Bills ML is our second-most popular parlay selection, and customers will be rooting hard for this to cash their parlays.
