It appears the Falcons can breathe a sigh of relief about star wide receiver Drake London. The knee injury that knocked London from Sundayâs game against the Panthers is not believed to be serious, according to NFL Networkâs Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport did say that London could miss some, but the Falcons wonât know the full extent of his injury until he undergoes additional testing.
Falcons Star Receiver to Undergo MRI on Knee
London had a team-high seven catches for 119 yards on nine targets before hurting his knee during the final moments of regulation. The game went to overtime, where the Falcons lost 30-27 on a Ryan Fitzgerald 28-yard field goal.
Head coach Raheem Morris did not provide further details on Londonâs status or the severity of his injury postgame. The 24-year-old was slated to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine how long, if it all, he will be out.
London has 60 catches for 810 yards (fourth in the NFL) and six touchdowns in nine games after setting career highs last year with 100 catches for 1,271 yards and nine scores.
This season, only three receivers have more yards than him: Jaxon Smith-Njigba (1,146), JaâMarr Chase (861) and Puka Nacua (850).
Penix Jr.’s Status Uncertain for Week 12
Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. joined London in not finishing the game. Penix Jr. hurt his knee after getting hit on a third-quarter pass attempt and did not return. The 2024 first-round pick was 13 of 16 passing for 175 yards before leaving. Kirk Cousins replaced him and went 6 of 14 for 48 yards through the air.
In blowing a 21-10 halftime lead, the Falcons lost their fifth straight game to fall to 3-7 on the season. They visit the NFC South rival Saints in Week 12.
Morris did not elaborate on Penixâs status following the game. Cousins is expected to start if Penix remains out.
âIâm sure (Cousins will) have some input on it and so (offensive coordinator) Zac (Robinson) and those guys will work together depending on what happens with Michael, and weâll be able to figure those things out when we get closer to practice on Wednesday,â Morris said of preparing Cousins to play.
