‘Fire Todd Bowles’ Trends Online Following Embarrassing Loss to Falcons

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially entered the nightmare portion of their season, compliments of consecutive home losses to NFC South rivals miles below .500 with the New Orleans Saints in Week 14 and Atlanta Falcons in Week 15.

While there was plenty of blame to go around, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles wasted little time pointing the finger directly at his players in an expletive-filled postgame rant following a 29-28 loss to the Falcons in which the Buccaneers blew a 14-point second half lead.

“You don’t make excuses,” Bowles said in an expletive-laden reaction. “You got to f—ing care enough where the s— hurts. It’s got to f—ing mean something to you. It’s more than a job. It’s your f—ing livelihood. How well do you know your job? How well can you do your job? You can’t sugarcoat that s—.”

Every coach has a decision to make following a loss like the Buccaneers just suffered. The best coaches usually take the blame publicly then, if it’s warranted, rip their players in the locker room — away from prying eyes. The worst coaches do what Bowles did, and throw everybody under the bus.

It’s a pretty clear signal that Bowles’ time in Tampa Bay might be coming to an end, and social media reflected public sentiment has turned against him as the Buccaneers dropped to 7-7 overall and found themselves looking up at the Carolina Panthers in the NFC South Division standings.

‘Fire Todd Bowles’ Trends Online After Loss

Social media was unsparing for Bowles, who saw his record drop to 34-30 in 4 seasons as Tampa Bay’s head coach with his team’s second consecutive loss.

“Fire Todd Bowles” was a trending topic on X and a smattering of the responses was pretty telling as far as how much the fans have turned against Bowles.

Bowles is now 60-72 overall in 9 season as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets and Buccaneers. To make things even worse, the Buccaneers’ latest loss to the Falcons came against a former Tampa Bay head coach in Falcons head coach Raheem Morris.

In Bowles’ 9 seasons, he’s only finished more than 2 games above .500 twice, in 2016 with the Jets when he went 10-6 and in 2024, when the Buccaneers went 10-7.

“SHOULD THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS FIRE HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES TONIGHT…?” ML Football wrote on its official X account. “Tampa Bay is 7-7 and no longer controls its playoff destiny. Bowles has one career playoff win as a head coach and continues to be one of the worst clock management coaches in NFL history.”

“Fire. Todd. Bowles. With this roster it is UNACCEPTABLE for a ‘defensive mind’ to let this team fail defensively late in games over and over and over again,” Mr. 4 Time wrote on X. “It’s a travesty this organization is letting him waste a Super Bowl contending roster. Glazer family — HE MUST GO NOW.”

“Fire Todd Bowles immediately … terrible usage of Bucky Irving …terrible clock usage on the last possession … Falcons would have had no time if you run the clock down, instead you throw and stop the clock … then you give up a 1st down when you have falcons at 3rd and 28,” DJ Miller wrote on X.
