First Match Official for Wrestlepalooza – WWE’s First Premium Live Event on ESPN

After weeks of speculation, Monday Night RAW GM Adam Pearce finally has the answers. Naomi’s shocking vacancy of the Women’s World Championship left Stephanie Vaquer off the Clash in Paris card entirely.

In her place stepped up The Wyatt Sicks and The Street Profits. With the status of the women’s title up in the balance, a special afternoon episode of RAW gave all the answers.

Iyo Sky vs. Stephanie Vaquer Made Official for Wrestlepalooza – WWE’s ESPN Debut

WWE has promised to do everything in their power to make Wrestlepalooza as special as humanly possible. With John Cena “facing an opponent he hasn’t faced in a decade” and the rumored Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre match, only the best will be featured on the card.

Clearly, they found two of the top women’s wrestlers in the entire world. With Stephanie Vaquer owed a title opportunity, Pearce found another woman who was screwed out of a title shot. His announcement on RAW sent shockwaves through the women’s division.

“One question’s been at the top of mind here on Monday Night RAW, who is going to be the next Women’s World Champion? Fortunately, I have two worthy competitors. Both are owned championship matches, and both are ready to battle for the vacant gold,” Pearce said.

He continued, “First, the woman who won the battle royal at Evolution to earn her opportunity, Stephanie Vaquer. And her opponent, she was already scheduled to face Naomi, the former Women’s Champion, Iyo Sky.”

“Will Stephanie cement her meteoric rise, or will Iyo’s historic year get even better? We’ll find out in three weeks because it is official. We crown a brand new Women’s World Champion live on ESPN at Wrestlepalooza,” Pearce added.

Stephanie Vaquer and Iyo Sky Were Both Owed Title Shots

Arguably no woman has had a better year than Iyo Sky. The former Women’s World Champion shocked the world when she defeated Rhea Ripley on the road to WrestleMania 41. After winning the title in March, she wound up holding it until July’s Evolution event. There, Naomi cashed in her Money in the Bank contract.

Naomi’s reign as champion was short-lived after she revealed to the world she was pregnant. Her announcement could not have come at a worse time as she was putting in the best work of her career. That said, her moment proved that there are things in life much more important than wrestling.

Naomi will be back, there’s no doubt about it. Vaquer took down plenty of other women at Evolution to earn her championship match in Paris. That didn’t happen, so Indianapolis will have to do.

Sky and Vaquer faced off on the April 21 edition of RAW. They’re bout ended in a no contest after nearly 14 minutes of action. Each have proven themselves as worthy competitors, and fans have been clamoring for a rematch ever since.

While Sky was part of the triple threat at Summerslam involving Naomi and Rhea Ripley, this will be her first traditional one-on-one title bout since she won it in March. Since then, there was a special guest referee, triple threat, cash in, and another triple threat.
