Football stadium barrier COLLAPSES at end of match as 14 people are rushed to hospital

AROUND 20 people suffered injuries after a barrier gave way at a football match in France last night.

The incident occurred during a cup final at U18 developmental level between Bertrange and Coume at the Guentrange stadium in Thionville.

Reports claim that 20 spectators fell a distance of 1.5m after the barrier gave way, causing a host of injuries.

A believed 14 people were taken to hospital for treatment.

And some of the injuries that occurred were a fractured tibia, a broken elbow and a partially crushed finger.

Meanwhile, the other six people involved were allowed to return home after being treated at the scene.

Thionville Mayor Pierre Cuny explained to the media that the terrifying events came at the end of the game.

He said: “There was a mass effect on a barrier in the stands, it gave way and around twenty people fell.”

Jacques Banderier, the sub-prefect who was on duty, then added: “No vital prognosis is involved but two people suffer from fractures.”

That incident happened around 8pm.

A large emergency response arrived on the scene before the area was re-opened around 9.30pm.

Now an investigation will be opened to determine the causes of the accident.

US Guentrange are based in Thionville, a city in the northeastern French department of Moselle. 

Coume are also based in north east France.

Neither club have yet to make any comment on the incident via social media.
