During the last season, the Buffalo Bills made an interesting trade, sending a 2025 third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for wide receiver Amari Cooper.
Cooper failed to do much in his time with the Bills, only recording 20 receptions for 297 yards and two scores.
The Bills probably thought they would be getting more production from Cooper when they traded for him. Sadly, Cooper’s career may be coming to an end, as he remains a free agent.
Cooper just finished playing on a five-year $100 million deal, which he played for three teams under the Bills, Browns, and Dallas Cowboys.
If Cooper wants to get back into the league, a team that needs another receiver, looking to win a Super Bowl, could sign him before or even after training camp.
Former Bills Amari Cooper Could Head To The Steelers
Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report thinks Cooper could be a good fit to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason.
“Like Allen, Amari Cooper is a former star who appears to have lost a step recently. Last season, he caught just 44 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns while splitting the season between the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills,” Knox wrote. “Of course, it’s worth noting that the 31-year-old wasn’t in a particularly enviable situation with either team. Cleveland had a disastrous rotation at quarterback. Cooper landed in Buffalo midseason and spent the rest of the year playing catch-up in an unfamiliar offense.
Two years ago, Cooper caught 72 passes for 1,250 yards and five touchdowns en route to his fifth Pro Bowl selection. He might not be able to replicate that success, but he should be able to provide more than he did in 2024.
Cooper would be a sensible target for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are going all-in on the 2025 season with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Pittsburgh acquired wideout DK Metcalf early in the offseason but also traded receiver George Pickens after the draft.”
It Would Be Smart For Pittsburgh To Sign Cooper
The Steelers need to find another receiver for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and why not consider signing Cooper?
It wouldn’t hurt for the Steelers to bring Cooper in and see what he has left in the tank. If the 31-year-old receiver looks like he still can play, then the Steelers will be able to have him for the season. If Cooper looks like he can’t give it a go anymore, then the team didn’t have to give up anything to get him.
The Steelers are going to be one of the teams to beat in the AFC this season, which means the Bills will likely have to go through them if they want to reach the Super Bowl.
Pittsburgh has made the playoffs numerous times in recent years, but has struggled to win a game due to inconsistent quarterback play. But this year, they should be able to finally win with Rodgers, who is one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.
