Former Buccaneers WR Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge

Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has been extradited to the United States and taken into custody on attempted murder charges tied to a May shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami, police confirmed Thursday.

As the New York Post reported, “Miami Police confirm that U.S. Marshals have apprehended Antonio Brown and that he has been extradited to the U.S.,” department spokesperson Mike Vega told NBC News.

“No date has been set for his transfer to Miami-Dade County.”

The former superstar wide receiver was apprehended in Dubai and later booked into Essex County Jail in New Jersey after arriving at Newark Airport, according to NBC6 Miami.

Authorities said Brown faces second-degree attempted murder with a firearm, which carries a potential 15-year prison sentence and $10,000 fine if convicted.

Brown had been at large since June, when a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Court filings indicate his attorney previously secured a $10,000 bond and house arrest, but Brown failed to return to Florida and instead remained overseas.

Despite the warrant, Brown continued posting on social media, even sharing an Instagram story promoting  different brands hours after news broke of his capture.

The Shooting and Allegations Against Brown

The alleged incident occurred May 16, outside a celebrity boxing match in Miami.

According to the arrest warrant, Brown got into a physical altercation with Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, a man he had known since 2022.

Witnesses told police Brown grabbed a handgun from a security guard and fired two shots at Nantambu, one of which reportedly grazed the victim’s neck.

“Mr. Nantambu stated Mr. Brown proceeded to shoot at him … placing him in fear for his life,” the warrant read.

Video from the scene shows chaos in the parking lot as gunfire erupted.

Police detained Brown shortly after but later released him pending further investigation.

Brown initially claimed he was attacked in an attempted robbery, denying being the shooter.

However, multiple witnesses later identified him as the person who caused the situation

Miami Police obtained additional footage showing Brown punching Nantambu before seizing the gun.

Antonio Brown’s Career with Buccaneers

Antonio Brown’s continued off-field issues have overshadowed his on-field success.

In his prime, AB was one of the greatest wide receivers in the history of the sport.

He was a seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro who spent nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, followed by brief stints with the Patriots and Buccaneers.

Brown’s final NFL appearance came in 2021, when he infamously removed his jersey and left the field mid-game against the New York Jets, leading to his release from the Bucs.

In two years with the Bucs, he caught 87 passes for 1028 yards and eight touchdowns.

He was a key piece in the Super Bowl title in 2021 and even caught a touchdown in the Super Bowl from Tom Brady.

He finished his 12-year career with 928 receptions, 12,291 yards, and 83 touchdowns.

It truly is a shame and such a sad story.

It is such a sad downfall for someone who rose from a sixth-round pick out of Central Michigan to become the best wide receiver in the NFL, only to throw it all away.

Authorities say Brown is being held without bond as he waits to be sent back to Miami-Dade County to face the attempted murder charge in court.
