Former Bucs WR Antonio Brown Wanted on Attempted Murder Charge

Antonio Brown was a lightning rod during his tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But his post-football playing days have been even harder to predict.

The former Buccaneers wideout is wanted on charges of attempted murder in connection with a fight he was in in Miami last month.

The longtime NFL wideout who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bucs and New England Patriots famously ended his NFL career by running off the field at MetLife Stadium against the New York Jets as a member of the Bucs in Week 17 of the 2021 NFL season.

According to the Washington Post, Miami-Dade police have a warrant for Brown’s arrest. But he is also an avid poster on X (formerly Twitter) and even shared a slew of cryptic messages after news of his warrant came out.

What Did Antonio Brown Do?

According to a warrant obtained by the Washington Post, officers in Miami responded to a report of gunshots outside of a boxing event in the Little Haiti neighborhood.

The warrant states that witnesses saw Brown as the alleged shooter, and that Miami-Dade police had a video of Brown first throwing a punch before stealing a gun from a security guard and firing two shots. Cell phone video, captured by witnesses, shows two bullets ring out and Brown attacking the alleged victim.

Brown was detained by police but was released. He later posted on X that he was jumped outside the boxing event because the attackers were trying to steal his jewelry.

But according to the Washington Post, the alleged victim met with detectives, and he told police Brown ran at him with the gun and grazed his neck with one shot, which required medical attention.

According to the report, the victim has known Brown since 2022.

It is the latest incident in Brown’s controversy-filled post-playing career. In 2022, he was alleged to have exposed himself to a woman in a pool in Dubai and he was served with an arrest warrant for an alleged domestic incident where he reportedly threw a shoe at his ex-fiancee.

Brown was served multiple arrest warrants for failed child-support payments in 2023, and in 2024 he filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to about $3 million in payments he owed multiple creditors.

These incidents do not include his football controversies like when he ran off the field in New Jersey or when he was traded from Pittsburgh to the Oakland Raiders then forced his way to the New England Patriots without ever playing a down.

What Did Antonio Brown Post After His Warrant Came Out?

One might think an arrest warrant for attempted murder might scare Brown into turning himself in and going straight. But that person evidently doesn’t know Brown.

Even though the warrant was issued Wednesday, Brown has remained active on social media and shared a promotional post of him in boxing attire and a video of him riding a bicycle — tagged in Iran — on both Instagram and X.

Whether Brown is in the Middle East, or at his home in Fort Lauderdale, he does not seem inclined to turn himself in, even though, according to the Washington Post, he must post $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest pending a trial.
