Former Cowboys All-Pro Takes Shot at Jerry Jones Amid Micah Parsons Contract Dispute

The Dallas Cowboys have found themselves in a tricky spot with superstar linebacker Micah Parsons, as he requested a trade last week amid his stalled contract negotiations with the team. And as if Jerry Jones didn’t already have enough on his plate, he ended up getting called out by one of his former players, Dez Bryant, for his handling of the situation.

Jones’ lackadaisical handling of Parsons’ contract negotiations has resulted in things spiraling out of control with training camp now underway. After hearing Jones bring up his name when discussing the Parsons situation, Bryant fired away at Dallas’ notorious owner, letting him know that things could get even worse for him if he continues to bring up his name.

Dez Bryant Bashes Jerry Jones Amid Micah Parsons Contract Situation

This isn’t the first time Jones has dragged his feet in long-term contract negotiations with his star players, and one guy who has experienced exactly what Parsons is going through is Bryant. After getting selected with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, Bryant made it through his entire rookie contract without getting a new deal. The star pass catcher would end up getting franchise tagged after the 2014 campaign, before signing a five-year, $70 million contract.

It wasn’t easy, but Bryant eventually got what he wanted. That’s the sort of sentiment that guys like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb also understand, as it took them a while to get the long-term contracts that they were looking for. Parsons is where all these guys once were, but he’s taken things a step forward by requesting a trade.

Jones, for one, doesn’t seem concerned about Parsons, as he recently provided some insight on his contract discussions with Bryant in an effort to show fans where things have gone off the rails. However, Bryant didn’t take too kindly to that, as he quickly called out Jones on social media, seemingly threatening to expose him and his lies.

“JERRY JONES I DONT THINK ITS SMART TO MENTION MY NAME,” Bryant said in a post on X. “I KEPT QUIET ABOUT A LOT OF UNFAIR (expletive).. ON SOME G SHIT… WE CAN HAVE STORY TIME IF THATS WHAT WE ARE DOING.”

Early in the offseason, there was reason to believe that the Cowboys would find a way to get Parsons’ contract sorted out before training camp, which would have been a refreshing change of pace. Instead, this appears to be the closest Jones has come to watching his negotiation tactics blow up in his face. Parsons wants out, and he doesn’t seem willing to change his stance on the matter.

Where things go from here is unknown, as Dallas is going to have to either pay Parsons or trade him to another team that will. It’s the same old song and dance, and Cowboys fans everywhere, including Bryant, are fed up. Jones has a lot of work to do to dig himself out of the hole he put himself in, and per usual, there will be quite a bit of intrigue surrounding the team’s upcoming training camp action.
